News Chen Yanyun Has Ruined Men for Me
I’m not even going to pretend to be objective about this drama because Chen Yanyun is one of the greenest flag MLs I’ve ever watched.
He is handsome, smart, capable, respected, protective, and most importantly — he knows how to treat the woman he loves.
What I love about Chen Yanyun is that his strength never comes at the expense of his relationship. He doesn't need to control the FL or constantly prove that he's the strongest person in the room. He respects her, trusts her, supports her, and actually listens to her.
And whenever there's a problem, he handles it. HAHA
That “don't worry, I've got this” energy is EVERYTHING to me. He is the kind of ML who makes you feel safe because he's competent and dependable, not because he is constantly shouting or showing off. Now I know I sound like I am writing about my type lol
Well, Ci Sha absolutely nailed this role. His portrayal of Chen Yanyun is so charismatic, and I especially loved the contrast between his calm, capable side and the softer, more affectionate side he shows with the FL. You can actually see how much he loves her through his expressions and little gestures.
The romance was another huge reason I enjoyed this drama. Their relationship felt genuinely affectionate and supportive rather than being built entirely around misunderstandings and unnecessary angst. They communicate. They trust each other. They actually act like partners.
The story itself is also very easy to digest, which I really appreciated. There are conflicts and political elements, but I never felt like I had to sit there making a flowchart to understand what was happening. The pacing kept me interested without becoming exhausting.
And honestly, sometimes that's exactly what I want from a historical romance:
A handsome and capable ML + a beautiful FL + great chemistry + a fun story + a relationship that doesn't make me want to scream at the screen.
Chen Yanyun has officially raised my standards for fictional men.
I don't give 10/10 because apparently nothing in this world is perfect.
But Chen Yanyun as a green flag? Very, very close. 😭💚
