not deliberately cruel (which is why i'm keeping an open mind) but definitely morally apathetic and generally uncaring about the plight of others with a few exceptions. so not exactly someone i'd root for at least not in the context of a protagonist male lead y'know like: - 'oh you say this is the last thing your dead mother left for you. lol nope cos i got it first so it's mine' - 'oh sure you can work for me to earn your precious thing back but also at a price you wouldn't reasonably be able to pay back in a lifetime' - crushes her hand with his foot, drags her away to be dunked into the sea, finds out she's still alive 'oh i kind of need her, why don't you yank her back up and oh yeah be sure to tie her up if she keeps being "stubborn"' (as for her sneaking onto his ship: he could just keep her locked up to make sure she doesn't do additional damage to his property and drop her off at the first landfall. hand her in to authorities if he feel like it cos if his only method of dealing with petty theft is physical abuse until he's not sure if she's still alive then i'm sorry he needs to outsource the administration of justice like come on.)

ehh...this is the only logic gap that i'd agree with you on. but even then there was no way for the mother to tell how far/close behind the men were. the only reason they had a stupidly long farewell dialogue was because lusi was fighting tooth and nail to get her mom on the boat. if the mother had her way lusi would be sailing off in seconds while she stayed behind just in case the men caught up fast (also rmbr at this point she didn't give a shit if she survived anymore, she only cared about the kids).
Hmm...I'm loving the start but there're and lot of dark themes that I'm worried the show isn't going to resolve properly. Right now I'm watching for ZLS because because she and her character's writing is amazing. Zi Jing's not great right now, like might makes right screwed over your loved ones decades ago so now that YOU're the rich powerful merchant that has power over a slave girl you're gonna screw her over? nahhh... On the plus side LYN is a great actor and could 100% sell this role if they choose to grow him into a proper protagonist or just write him into an antagonist. We dunno if the main duo is even intended to end up as a happy couple yet so... Anyway LYN does have a good track record of picking his roles really well so I'm going to stick around and hope that they've got good stuff planned for his character.

I actually love WX as a character but I don't know why they bring her along from a logical standpoint. (Unless I missed something, the show didn't make it clear that she has to be actually PRESENT for the other half of the token to be found, or why ZYZ/any other competent person can't just speedrun the process and deploy her once they've got her at full power.) Same goes for the kid. They're doing their best but they're still essentially just some guy and certainly liabilities. I also don't like how they're dumbing down WX. She used to be able to get shit done despite being a weaker than average human, even more efficiently than ZYC sometimes. Now she just rambles and inexplicably flies towards danger even though she like...can't fight??

Both some of her powers doesn't need ZY to do anything? but before ZY realised he had it she couldn't do shit? I...don't really know how this works. Also I'm assuming ZY doesn't know he had half cos he was not himself when he grabbed it from the air? Did I get that right?
