Might be a contender for best BL to have come this year

Going into it, I had no idea just how invested I would become into the story.

For the most part, there is a happiness to the scenes with the characters getting along despite the whole world going to end part. But that's the thing, there's always this sort of bitterness because of the fact, and the characters also show this.

The dynamics between the characters are great too. Who knew that a healthy relationship is great television! I love how they communicate with each other, it feels so satisfying to have characters that actually listen to one another.

The acting is top notch. I'm glad they didn't just use some rookies whose first gig would be this, because there's a lot of emotions to display that will be difficult to portray. Both main characters show a great understanding of their roles, and their emotions.

The cinematography is interesting, it follows this "reels" format which I've seen first trending on douyin some years back and it seems to have caught on since for higher value productions. Sometimes the shots switching can feel jarring, but most of the time it felt natural.

The budget is surprisingly high, and I never once felt like it was lacking or that something felt out of place.

Overall: 9/10.

Go watch it, and experience the emotional rollercoaster I did.

Edit: 30th May 2025.

Rewatching it, and I think the acting is mainly what caught me lol. If you think good acting/chemistry can save a series for you, still would recommend this! However, it does lack in some story aspects, but if you can look past it, I think the actors did a really good job in portraying their characters. I wouldn't give this a 9 anymore lol.

Had Potential, but Unfortunately Fell Flat

I don't mind the vertical format, but so much was left unexplained or went too quickly that it felt off-putting. The story lacks cohesion in my opinion, with strange and abrupt storytelling elements.

The cinematography also felt strange at times, that it felt a bit amateurish throughout the viewing experience.

The acting was pretty well done so I don't have any major complaints about that compared to other elements.

This had so much potential, so I can only hope that in the future when thriller BLs are made that there's more attention to cohesive storytelling.

I mainly watched this being intrigued by the thriller BL aspect, and N being one of the leads.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time, I did enjoy various parts of this series despite me having an overral critical review of this show.

The show had its comedic moments, and some nice chemistry moments between the leads but I wouldn't go into this with high expectations.
