I love languages and I'm currently learning Korean and a bit of Mandarin so this was super interesting! It's such a shame that some great dramas have horrible titles. Another offender for me would be a brilliant title translated into a lackluster one like No Longer Human was translated to Lost, No Sex in The City to 20th Century Boy and Girl. Plus, I didn't like Just Between Us Lovers (but I do acknowledge that the Korean title is so hard to translate too), Dali and the Cocky Prince (I like Dali and Gamjatang better), It's Okay To Not Be Okay (I mean Psycho, But It's Fine is more interesting), Something In The Rain (I understand that makes more sense but Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food is more intriguing). But it's also great when the title is amazing both in their native language and in English like Hospital Playlist (Wise Doctor Life), Our Beloved Summer (Us That Year), Nevertheless, , and an upcoming one called Sh**ting Stars which I found so clever!
Can someone tell me if there's a feel that they'll end up together? I have been struggling with not watching it…
I looove Run On and Our Beloved Summer. These two are my top dramas for 2021 and I've been helplessly hung up on both. For me, I think the vibe is a bit similar in that the two leads love each other so much but they also have a ton of communication issues that they need to work through to be together. Definitely watch OBS, it's worth your time, especially since you love Run On.
Our Beloved Summer shows the beauty of a harmful relationship, and the romantic curse of falling in love to a…
Calling Yeonsoo abusive is too much. Was she immature? Totally. You have to remember that they were 19-23 year olds when they dated. Woong literally grew up in a loving household so idk about that comment with his mom. They even showed us how attentive his parents were in that just one mention of Woong being sick, they were ready to drop everything. Of course they are going to pay attention to other peopleās needs when they have guests.
All in all, itās easy to vilify Yeonsoo (if she were a guy, people would be all sympathetic with her background as most Kdramas have shown). At the flip side of the coin, donāt you notice that Woong quickly lashes out at Yeonsoo instead of just asking her about it (case on point: when he rudely interrupted her at the party while she was talking with higher-ups even though he knew Yeonsoo would never do such a thing ). Or maybe even just being ignorant of her struggles and saying her dreams of just getting a job was too unambitious or lackluster considering of the effort she was putting in? Idk about you, but that would gut me totally. He never had to struggle so he didn't know how much Yeonsoo had to sacrifice just to be with him (When he was bugging her to go see the cherry blossoms, he was having a tantrum while she was working and it was implied that she had another work after. She can't just drop everything and see the cherry blossoms, not when she had other things to worry about.
As the drama kept pointing out, a break up is never just the fault of one side. That being said, I look forward to see how the characters will address and overcome their faults.
PS Iām with you on how itās one of the best Kdramas of the year!
I love the rain and umbrellas! Two other memorable umbrellas would be the iconic broken umbrella from Love Rain (quite an old Kdrama but it started my obsession with yellow umbrellas, solidified only by HIMYM) and the transparent umbrella kiss from I'm Not A Robot
Excellent article! One of the interesting kisses would be in Dr. Romantic 2 when the ML kisses the FL non-consensually twice which results in her pushing him away and even slapping him. They both draw a line between themselves until the FL is the one who initiates the kiss at the end of the series.
Another one would be in Chicago Typewriter. Totally non-consensually at first by the FL's part but when the ML responds to it, it was so so good.
If I remember correctly 'Do you like Brahms' had way too much angst and miscommunication around ep 10-14. it almost…
Yeah it did become a little angsty around the end mark but the unfolding of their relationship was such a treat to watch so I really wanted to include them here.
Congratulations on a very well-written and enthusiastic debut! A very interesting list, thanks for sharing. Of…
I've always wanted to start watching Jdramas since I love slice-of-life but didn't really know where to start. I'll check out your recommendations. Thank you so much :D
Why a tirade against them Do San and Dal Mi when there is nothing in the drama to serve as example or counter…
I agree with some of your points like the one-sidedness of HJP. But I still stand by what I said about the writers attempting a a lowkey romance between Dalmi and Dosan. The very essence of their relationship is that they are not the "fated, meant-to-be" type of couple that young Dalmi and young Jipyeong had the potential of being. That's why the writers emphasized Dosan's hands to show that their romance is grounded, dependable, and realistic; their intimate moments (like the kiss and hug scene) had no sound at all; and how Dalmi said she just likes Dosan (implying that they're not some star-crossed lovers but just two people falling in love). However, I think the execution failed since they showed over-the-top expressions of love instead. I respect your opinion though and I could see how it can be read that way too. Thank you so much!
Quiet love, slow burn, or any kind that's not a piece of treat dangling in my face is my kind of romance. I actually…
Thank you so much!
Yes, I'd take a quiet slow burn any day too! Do You Like Brahms is such a beautiful drama. I highly recommend it, especially since it tackles other themes like giving up on one's dreams plus the music scene backdrop was fascinating to watch too.
Do you know of other dramas with a similar "quiet vibe" romance? I'd love to watch them too.
