But at the same time, not everyone read the novel, so they’re missing the rich inner world the source material offered.
That said, I also get why they went with the fluffier, easier-to-digest route. Sometimes viewers just want a comforting escape — something light and fun. Not every drama has to be a masterpiece of angst and complexity… though it would be nice if more tried.
