There's a show that's perfect for someone out there. It doesn't matter about the rating or popularity; it just has a special place in your heart. This is that kind of show for me. From the casting to the staff behind the scenes, it's done so well. From the beginning to the end, the show came to a full circle. I rewatched this so many times and enjoyed it (while crying) just as much. For those who read this, I hope you'll find that certain perfect show for you, too.
As I mentioned above, it's true that butterflies fade, interactions become stagnant, and it’s easy to fall into the pattern of simply going through the motions/living as roommates rather than romantic partners. That's why the idiom "The Seven Year Itch" theory is so popular. It's a choice people must make every day to maintain a romantic relationship over many years. A lot of times people choose to ignore the issues within a relationship out of comfort, sense of responsibility or loyalty, etc. It is possible to find oneself attracted to others throughout life and unfortunately, instead of seeing that as a sign that something is missing within the relationship and addressing it, sometimes people cheat. It's not right by any means, but it does happen and both partners must figure out how to navigate the betrayal (break up, therapy, stay resentful, etc. ).
From now on, I will stop letting Mydramalist's rating system influence my decisions to watch dramas because I find it unreliable. Pursuing Jade has led me to watch several ZLH dramas; so far, I have finished The Best Thing, Princess Royal, and Our Generation. To me, Our Generation ranks second only after the Pursuit of Jade. I love everything about it, although there are several repetitive, unnecessary scenes of reminiscing. This is definitely a slice-of-life drama, and I understand how ML reacts in that way. When you are born into a family where your mom loves you only as a replacement for someone else and only shows love when you achieve something, it breeds insecurity, doubt, and a constant drive to do your best to earn love. This is reality, and things like this still happen. So only FL, with her unconditional love, can heal him. FL was raised with love, so her love reflects her upbringing. All the characters in the drama, except the ML's parents, are so loving, kind, and supportive. The friendship shown in this drama is what I wish everyone had in their lives — a group of friends who love you and always want you to be happy. THIS friendship reminds me of the Korean drama "Hospital Playlist." I love Lin Yingtao's view of life, and it definitely aligns with the book I love, “Man's Search for Meaning”: Even when life is hard, it does not take away your choice to hope or to react to the situation. Zhao Jin Mai is definitely a very good actress, and Zhang Lin He proves to everyone that he can act.
I wonder why this one has such a low rating! It was such a great drama! The plot, the characters, the acting...everything was just wow! I have watched Zhao Jin Mai dramas before and honestly was not impressed. But here she was phenomenal! Felt like she has put her heart and soul into it. Zhang Ling He is of course a great actor but he has outdone himself.
And I think Yu Qiao needs special mention. Words cannot mention how amazingly the character was written! And the actor delivered!
Fifteen years of dramas, endless watchlists, emotional damage, questionable sleep schedules… and somehow still hitting “just one more episode.”
From its early days to the incredible community it is now, MDL has grown into more than just a database — it’s a place where fans connect, share, debate, recommend, and sometimes collectively spiral over fictional characters.
A huge thank you to the admins and owners who built and continue to maintain the platform, to the moderators and staff who keep everything running (and sane 👀), and to the countless contributors who help expand and improve the database every single day.
And of course — the community. Every review, every list, every comment, every heated discussion about ratings… that’s what truly makes MDL what it is.
To celebrate, we’ll be hosting some fun activities throughout the month — a little chaotic, a little creative, and very MDL-core. So stay tuned, join in, and let’s make this anniversary one to remember!
Here’s to 15 years of stories… and many more to come 🥂 #MDL15 #kisskh
