Curious what kind of general meets your standards? Keep in mind this is an idol drama, one of the best in its…
I've already stated in previous comments that watched it all the way through?? you should learn to read ;)

intricate details are nice but it does not pair well with a bad story-telling! that's why this drama was disappointing. the problem with the character isn't that he is cold, but the fact that he is boring and not interesting at all.

anyway, I've got better shows to watch that arguing with youngsters on this website. nice week to you ;)

someone who's not acting the 'I'm an emo and cold guy' type-way maybe? honestly I have yet to see a competant general, woman or man, in cdramas but I can still say this one was not convicing to me. like his personnality did not fit at all and the man was barely blinking wtf

wu lei is a good actor but this specific role felt empty to me ig?
I first thought it was just the scenario that didn't do him and lu si justice, but since it's an idol drama I suppose it make sense for it to be so badly written... as for 'the best in it's genre' I'm probably too old to enjoy a 'serving face' drama lol

but it's nice for everyone to enjoy it, it just wasn't for me eh

also can we please stop making 15yo FL and marrying them off like it's the normal thing to do? ling buyi is 21…
I binged/skipped a bit through part 2 yesterday/today and it's just not my cup of tea even with the ending. wu lei's acting was extremely stiff and not convincingand his character was just not it EVEN with the backstory (which was cool but the way it was protrayed wasn't). same for ZLS's character. 56 ep is way too much for this little material.
also the last eps were completely unnecessary drama
so yeah guess it just wasn't up to my standars.

I would argue that she's the one who moves the plot, not the "trouble-maker". First off, she didn't start…
well dilraba was older than wu lei during the filming which makes the age dynamcs more... odd
but in the source material of 'chang ge xing' which was adapted into the long ballad, her character is indeed 15 😂

she's also just a 15 yo girl trying to get vengeance for her mother. she never commanded armies before, or travelled far alone.
technically she was bound to make mistakes (and a lot of them). but I get your point she was annoying on some parts but she's just a little one on the path of revenge so I get that makes up for it, kind of? wu lei's character was +20 so technically he groomed her too lol
but even so he was more mature and had more experience of the world. it makes sense for him to 'know' more things and her to just be stubborn.

but the supporting cast / side characters are good though
I'm more interested in them than the main leads

I didn't get the hype back in 2022 and only just watched this show recently but... it's kind of disappointing?…
also can we please stop making 15yo FL and marrying them off like it's the normal thing to do? ling buyi is 21 it's just weird to be attracted to a child. there's no consistency at all between the interactions or the power dynamics of the noble families too.
FL's character may be childish but she's 15 so it makes sense. couldn't they had gone with a slight timeskip of like 2/3 years after ling buyi/chen shaoshang's meeting to make it make more sense lol?

I didn't get the hype back in 2022 and only just watched this show recently but... it's kind of disappointing? ling buyi's character aka the so-called 'best general in cdramas' for some peole isn't meeting any of my expectation at all. ZLS is convincing in her role but the dialogues are sort of bland? I don't think I'll watch the second part.

I understand your point but... this is a female centric drama so of course he'll have less scenes than TXW + the…
and is ranting on MDL going to change the way the industry treats them all? I aware of ZLS's story, been following her while for a few years and it is a shame indeed that health is forgotten over money-hungry projects. it's disgusting, even. that's capitalism for you.

let's not even start with yu meng long's end that clearly depicts how corrupt the chinese drama industry treats their actors.

my main problem with your comment is saying that ZLH had his screentime stolen by side actors who, no joke, have to make a living too! you think big actors have it hard? think of the little new faces thrown in this hell of an industry that's you're bashing so easily...

haven't seen 'our generation' yet but I heard about the controverse indeed.

I think we should all just stop plastering our expectations on dramas. a story can be well depicted without much talking between the character as well as it can be ruined by too much interactions. every drama is going to be different than the next and perhaps your mistake was going in this drama hoping ZLH will be at the center of the attention (in a way, he is since he's the most feared general, he's literally haunting the story even when he's not on screen...) and seeing he wasn't from time to time was upsetting. and I get it, honestly, but that doesn't mean more little actors should bear the consequences of it just because you think they get more screetime than xie zheng when they don't...

Honestly speaking to this day xie zheng character is at #1 and changyu at # 2. So xie zheng has so much impact…
you think xie zheng is defined by romance? apoligize, I had no idea ML weren't allow to show how much they love their FL :(

man got his backgroung with the wei family, he's a multi-talent soldat, a war general, a hero... he's ruthless, intelligent, empathic. what more do you need lol? the drama portrays his character well enough. there's no competition and the serie does not fails to portray him (in fact, as I stated on another message, the drama xie zheng is better than the novel xie zheng in my opinion + the drama has yet to end!! why are you so fast on criticism when we'll perhaps get a flashback scene of his past or an episode more centered around xie zheng's character?

I think it's just the fact xie zheng appeared a little less in those two eps lol.

but we went a lot more without him on screen before, like when changyu was searching for changing & when she was in that 'labor' camp to carry rocks too. this is a drama with a plurality of characters (a strenght, in my opinion) that doesn't hesitate to give credits to said characters while embellishing the story.

agreed on the villains too, we didn't see them for a while too so there's no way (even if they had more screentime) that they could overshadow ZLH's character.

Title Pursuit of Jade Spoiler
I understand your point but... this is a female centric drama so of course he'll have less scenes than TXW + the…
I've read the novel a few times so I know what you mean about bits of his persona being dumped off, but we can't keep on expecting a 40 ep drama to translate tones of words from a novel to perfection... that's why it's called an adaptation.

now yes: there's events missing, scenes that were changed, actions that weren't shown but having read the novel I can say that those changes weren't that bad. in fact, they deepen the story in my opinion, offering another way to witness changyu & zheng's story.

I'm speaking as a fan of TXW: for example the scenes where fan changyu catches the fleeing guards (before reuiniting with xie zheng) in the novel she does it all alone and that's badass. in the drama, the butcher's squad helps her through it. does it makes her character any less? no. because she's meant to become a leader, and a leader gives order/has responsabily over people. so this change makes sense! (same thing for the reveal of his identity to her but the pacing there could have been better)

it's the same for xie zheng's character. that and the fact that I prefer his black flag side being toned down a bit in the drama because honestly it doesn't look good and feels off in the novel lol (but again personal take).

now the drama has yet to end so I believe that things can still change. and maybe there's an episode focusing a lot more on xie zheng coming? who knows. it's too early to say anything.

but I'm curious... if it wasn't ZLH that was playing XZ in this drama, would you dare defend another male actor like this? or does this only apply to your favorite actors/actresses? not saying you shouldn't, just curious.

you can either critize the drama as a whole or not doing it at all. saying side characters are throwing shades at xie zheng doesn't make any sense, they too workd their asses off for their work.

he is the ML of a f e m a l e c e n t r i c drama. i don't know how I can be any clearer about him appearing less...

the story focuses on her, her origins, her growth, the people she meet. he's there, sure, they're good co-stars with TXW but expecting him to take more importance than changyu in HER own story is messed up...

but I assume that's patriarchy speaking here :p

as for the the unbalanced screentime, I can say as someone who studied filmaking that this is a choice. so it is balanced, but now how you would like to be, that's all. in my opinion, some scenes of the drama could have been better paced however, but that's a personal take (as is yours).

I'd also like to add that what makes a good series isn't making face cards actors poping everywhere but building a lore. which PoJ does quite well, as we get to visualize a whole world through changyu's eyes AND every single one of the supporting characters that deepen said lore with their experiences/stories.

I get that you're a fan of ZLH (it's only my second drama of him personally so I can't speak much about his acting) but this drama isn't a thirst trap supposed to serve exposing every one of his talent/hard work (that he is EXPECTED to do, to learn how to fight, talk a certain way... to play a character, that's his job). he's given a role to play and he plays it damn well in my opinion. the pacing of the story is alright and no characters are overshadowing his, he's the fricking marquis of wu'an, how could they?

Title Justice in the Dark Spoiler
if I remember correcly both the medication he takes & the electrocution chair are a experimental method/treatment…
I didn't trust my memory so I went back to watch ep13 so here's how it went with lil timestamps:

41'01 : luo wei zhou sends lan qiao pictures of the meds & the chair
41'47 : he gets a phone call from lan qiao telling him what those meds & equipment is used for :)

it only last a few sentences before he hungs up while watching the video on the projector.

and only after that is there the 'hallucination' part all in red lighting where he sees pei su 'treating' himself!

so maybe rewatch ep13 around those timestamps to get the explanation again if it's still unclear to you :)

hope it helped, have a nice day <3

After watching today’s two episodes, Zhang Linghe appeared for less than 20 minutes in total, and I’m honestly…
I understand your point but... this is a female centric drama so of course he'll have less scenes than TXW + the supporting cast that, well, support the FL. that and the fact that at this point (ep29 & ep30) focuses a lot more on lore than romance. and ZLH is here to play TXW romantic's partner so ofc he'll appear less in those two eps, itmakes sense to me.

he knew that when he signed the contract for this serie, in fact, we all knew that as soon as the adpation of zhu yu was announced with TXW & ZLH as leads, TXW would have more scenes since the sory is focused on her. I don't see how it could suprise you so much to see him get less screen time but I get that it's upsetting.

as for how his agency may be treating him, chinese celebs industry is fucked up anyway (not saying that as a good thing). we can only hope he gets better & signs better scripts that allow him to shine as he should!! that, or his agency finally buying themselves some braincells and allowing him to breath, idk.

but saying he is outshined by other characters/actors despite being invested in his role BTS sounds wrong to me... that's like saying no other actor also do this (which is the bare minimum in my opinion to really impersonate a character) and throwing shade at them.

p.s : english isn't my mother tongue but I hope I managed to express my thoughts not too roughly :')
