ML: the punching bag

So quickly I’ll say this supposedly high budget drama looked cheap, used a lot of AI(ew) and the music was…woooo, horrific. Moving on, I have never sided with a republican era ML and never thought I would, until now. I won’t say much about the FL, I found her mostly unlikable and selfish but she had valid reasons sometimes. ML was a good guy despite his circumstances. He had good intentions, loved his brothers, he loved FL, he continued to obey both parents despite how they abused him. Now what does he get in return? Everyone around him(including FL) controlling, manipulating, hiding things from him and just being outright mean to his face. Some claimed to be doing these things for his sake out of “love”, but it was just completely ignoring his feelings and what he wanted. Now after spending 98.7% of the series being treated poorly, ML who sacrificed so much should get a happy ending right? LOL, guess not. ML has the *tiniest* glimpse of happiness before it all ends for him. And not only did the ML spend the entire drama miserable, all the other characters did too. Which made it miserable to watch and a waste of time.

The ball was majorly dropped

Crushology 101 started off SO fun and cute but it was unable to keep that good vibe going.

The lead’s relationship had me giggling and kicking my feet in the first few episodes but it then turned into cheap, unnecessary drama. Precious story time was wasted with the ML confused about and eventually getting closure with his ex.

After that nonsense was resolved there was another great offense, they did a freaking time jump past the period where the leads were dating happily to when they start having problems! Now who thought that was what we’d want to see? I much prefer shows where once a couple gets together they face their obstacles as a team, instead of having back to back issues then a breakup.

ML kinda sucked by the end and it seemed like he didn’t even consider getting back together with FL until a couple people pushed him. Meh, they were cute for the last ten or so minutes of the series but by then I was over it. The one thing I was happy about was that the 2nd ML ended up having a little love interest, he deserved it.

What was the point?

I had this on and off my To-Watch list so many times. Have to say, I should have kept it off. A positive is that ML is a sweetie angel but he doesn’t have enough screen-time and my heart broke for him over and over. FL is 29 the whole show but is immature and so dumb. The only real timeline is tragic and depressing. Nothing good actually happens, any happy moments weren’t real. The storyline was not well thought out. We got no explanation in the end, things didn’t make sense. The time traveling or whatever FL did was pointless because the future didn’t change. So she went back just to become aware of ML existence? Everything FL did was to save ML yet…she didn’t. No one ever found out what truly happened to ML. And in the end it’s just a vague open ending. We got to see the cheaters together but not leads. A let down.

**after the credits of the movie(a completely different story) we get to see that it was ML was there at the end of the TV show. It’s a few seconds of the same ending scene from this show, now would that have been so hard to include? It didn’t make the ending any more satisfying though.

The one thing I ask you not to do!

(If you’re not a romantic you can skip on by this review)

This is a drama with really well written characters and a talented cast. The leads are adorable with a great friendship. The villain origin story of the ex husband was perfectly constructed. I was loving it, but towards the end I discovered that the writers are actually my biggest haters! They wrote a plot that I fear every time I watch a historical drama: the dreaded multi-wives. The leads(while not both in love yet) had a sweet, touching tiny wedding. The significance of a small wedding is purposefully shown. Then, just *3* days after the leads’ wedding ML is “forced”(didn’t try at all did ya, buddy?) to take another wife, in the lavish way that was previously avoided. I won’t go into detail about how it seemed out of character for him but, I mean, they couldn’t have at least made it a month later?! It totally diminished the leads’ own wedding. Whatever, ML doesn’t care about wife #2 but I sure do. As far as I can tell that plot isn’t very important to the story, so it must just exist to upset me? Call me petty but I’m taking away 3 whole stars for this, because I can

Tons of great characters, minus 1

This might just be the only drama with a large cast where I thought all of the characters had interesting stories and personalities. A lot of times I sigh and power through scenes with side characters but here I actually looked forward to seeing most of them. I mean I even liked her crazy obsessive first(ex? non?) husband a ton. ML still wins the prize for best character though. He was mischievous, funny and intense. He’s completely devoted to FL(do I get it? Not really but I expect no less from a ML). Sadly the character who was lacking was a very important one, FL. FL has very little emotion, little personality, few expressions. Now pair this with this drama’s big flaw- we don’t get deep enough into any character’s mind, and you get a FL who doesn’t give much. I mean, FL became two people and it was just business as usual? No explanations or insights into how she felt or how it affected her? Nothing?! It’s baffling to get past, but the rest of the characters held this drama up for me despite FL and all the missing information
