Run On because the ML was just so obviously dysfunctional < yes, but he clearly did not have autism. He had low…
Everyone is subject to their own opinions. I'm not a psychiatrist, so I won't argue with you on that point. To me, the ML in Run On seemed to at least be 'on the spectrum' not because he would rather keep to himself, but because he clearly had issues with picking up social cues or sympathizing with others. Poor upbringing might explain an introverted personality, but that is different from what we saw in the ML's behavior and interactions.

I do not think the FL is 'dysfunctional', she clearly is able to 'understand' others or capable of socializing, she just chooses not to.

It's not just female leads. It's also male leads. For example, 'Run On' and 'Shopping King Louie' feature male leads who clearly have some form of autism. In the latter, the male lead would not even be able to survive in society by any standards if not for his inherited wealth (i.e. he would be in massive amounts of debt due to his frivolous spending, couldn't hold a normal job due to his child like behavior). Even his mannerisms indicate some form of autism (fingers stretched when walking, etc.)

I had to drop Run On because the ML was just so obviously dysfunctional but the story made it out to be that he was just 'misunderstood'. I agree that there's this new push in recent Kdramas to romanticize mental illness. Hell, the new 'Mad For Each Other' is another good example.

A lot of the new dramas also feature dysfunctional relationships where the ML is clearly abusive or overly controlling (ie My Roommate is a Gumiho) or both ML and FL have some co-dependency issues (ie Doom at your service).

I am just going back to dramas prior to 2010, where crazy was more like 'fake siblings fall in love but they can't love each other because they're secretly actually real siblings but then it turns out they're not'. At least there the characters are usually hardworking and abide by some morals I can sympathize with. Not this garbage pushing mental illness. Yea, mental heath is an important issue, but this is not the way to address it.
