It seems there are going to be spin offs of this series, some of which are vertical. I suspect Yang Xuwen may…
Yeah, that's true. But perhaps his luck will turn around? 🤞 I mean this year alone 5 dramas of his have been released including the very old one (older than EB) on different platforms. On iQiyi (EB & STOTD), on Tencent (EB, Contenders and The Great Lin Qian Jin), Youku (Black & White Bureau) And next month Strange Tales Chronicles will come out too. He's been busy with small projects such as documentaries or government related projects at the moment.
Let's hope at least Linghe (the company that produced EB) will make EB season 3. I recognized a few actors in EB making appearance in the 3rd case. 😁

The micro drama has opened reservation on iQiyi. It's going to be 20 episodes and each is 20 minutes long. This…
From what I've read on weibo yes this micro drama is considered season 4. It will come out next month. It seems the reason why it took them so long to shoot season 3 (about 7 months) was that they shot 2 seasons, the long format (season 3) and the micro drama format (season 4).

He had stitches on his head in LOCH, stitches on his chin in SToTD 1, bruises and burn in SToTD 2, and the spear almost poked his eye in SToTD 3. The guy has collected injuries in all 3 seasons of SToTD 😁

In 2017 he was shooting a drama with the crew and they're staying in a hotel. One day an actress who was seen with him the day before was found dead. The police questioned everybody including the crew and him. They found no foul play. Since then this issue has been used to defame him. In 2022 he filed 2 defamation lawsuits against 2 bloggers and he won. He almost never shot a drama for about 2 years until SToTD at the end of 2020. It's good to see him bounce back from a difficult setback.

He doesn't have the basics of martial art so he uses stunt double. But he tries to do his own stunts like 90%. Like the famous Lu Lingfeng's three sword style. In S1, he trained for 7 days to get a 1 or 2 minute fight scene, and 10 days in S3 for a 5 minute scene. He always ends up with injuries after shooting SToTD.
In this one I think his spear nearly made him blind.

I hope Yang will shoot other dramas and not only SToTD. As much as I love SToTD, I'd rather he took some time off the series and had dramas with other teams for a change. These last 5 years, half of his dramas were made with Guo Jingyu's team and half with other teams. It would be nice to see him play different character with different teams.

Characters like Meng Buyi confuses me but is quite fun to watch. I can't decide if he's trustworthy or annoying.…
The assassin made me chuckle. He doesn't feel guilty for failing doing the task. "At least I've tried" he said 😆😆

No worries :) To each their own. It's always nice to learn new knowledge, And as I mentioned I'm not an expert in acting. My opinion was based on a presumption and not knowledge. You're probably right.

I'm not an expert in acting but I would view their style of acting as theatrical rather than weird because they attempt to reenact how people behaved and acted in a period that took place over 1,200 years ago. People in the past certainly wouldn't behave and act as we do now . In traditional theatres such as Kabuki or Noh in Japan or Chinese Opera you may find theatrical acting which requires actors to use exaggerated gestures or voice projection in order to connect with live audience. And since these traditions date back hundreds of years ago, we can presume that that's how people talked and behaved or acted in that era. That's perhaps why in Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, they chose this style of acting as they're trying to bring the history to life.

I happen to like traditional theatres ☺️ I like it when the makers of period dramas pay attention to details as I consider period dramas as time capsule. I've looked up and discovered that both YXW and YZG graduated from top acting schools in China so both were professionally trained as actors. Their style of acting in SToTD was intentional because they play characters in ancient China.

On the other hand, I find Judge Dee's Mystery (2024) too jarring because everything in Judge Dee's Mystery is too modern for that time period so it doesn't feel authentic. Di Renjie's behavior or attitude feels too contemporary for that period of time.

That said, I completely understand why you find their acting jarring. Perhaps you're not accustomed to theatrical acting and many Cdramas that label themselves as period dramas they don't use this style of acting so that they can relate to modern audience or even international audience.

Yeah he pissed me off this case. And I am utterly flabbergasted he didn't catch any bad vibes from the people…
The advantages of being a commoner in that period were perhaps freedom. Master Fei is not an aristocrat so he can do whatever he wants 😁

hahaha yeah I know. As @AleksandraSukur explained. Among the 6 members, LLF is actually the most unfortunate considering his position and status. He has much less freedom in comparison to SWM. When you look at it, being an aristocrat is not a privilege but a burden.

I looked up wikipedia. Was she genius? She became Wu Zetian's secretary at 13! 😮
