August is a beautifully shot, paced documentary, where Zhang Zhehan shares his personal healing journey, along with other interesting stories of people who have carved out their own lives, living for their own dreams. From Shangri-la to Lhasa, we are treated to an amazing adventure from land to churning waters and frozen ice... I can only lament that we don't spend enough time at every spot.

FYI Zhang Zhehan did not enter the shrine. The sakura park was on shrine grounds, but the entire park is very large and many tourists, including Chinese tourists themselves have been recommended to that very same park by CCTV - their own state media back in 2021, when Chinese ties were still friendly to Japan.

Firstly, I believe in China for a production to reach airing stage, you need the filming permit, pass censorship, obtain airing license etc
The filming permit will expire. And since this drama was shot back in 2016, its more like likely it has already expired by now. Plus it never passed censorship stage due to script issues about changing historical events...
All in all, its going to be another sad case of drama that has been created but never see the light of day. Unless China changes its regulations that will not change, even for exported dramas.

This drama was not cleared for censorship back in the day and had nothing to do with Zhang Zhehan being banned. It was shot 4 years prior to 2021, back in 2016-2017. It was because the story was considered to have taken too much artistic license to historical events "之前不能播是因为对历史改编较大而未能过审" and could not pass censorship to obtain its airing license.
