K-Drama Enjoyable at Times, Boring at Others!
Genie, Make a Wish was honestly a bit of a roller coaster for me. There were moments when I really enjoyed it, and sometimes I found myself getting bored. My biggest issue was the pacing and the story itself. The concept had a lot of potential, especially the idea of granting wishes and dealing with their consequences, but I wish the writers had explored that aspect more instead of shifting so much focus toward other plotlines. Some parts of the story also felt confusing, and the shift toward heavier themes didn't always work for me.
That said, there were moments when I really enjoyed it, especially the supernatural elements, VFX, and the overall magical atmosphere. The fantasy scenes were visually appealing, and I liked how the drama tried to mix comedy, romance, and darker themes.
Kim Woo-bin and Suzy were definitely one of the highlights for me. Kim Woo-bin brought a lot of charisma to Genie, and I enjoyed his playful, dramatic side. He had some really entertaining moments, and his screen presence made the character interesting to watch. Suzy was also good as Ka-young, especially with her portrayal of someone who struggles to understand and express emotions normally. Her character was quite different, and I liked seeing the little changes in her as the story progressed.
As for their chemistry, I think they had some good moments together, and their pairing was interesting to watch. I liked the contrast between Genie's expressive, mischievous personality and Ka-young's more emotionless and unpredictable nature. Their dynamic had potential, and there were scenes where I could really appreciate their connection. However, I wasn't completely invested in their romance throughout the drama. I feel like their relationship could have been developed more naturally in certain parts to make the emotional moments hit harder.
Still, I can understand why this drama has such mixed reactions. It has a unique premise, beautiful visuals, a talented cast, and some genuinely entertaining moments. Even though I didn't love every part of it, there was enough here to keep me interested until the end.
Overall, Genie, Make a Wish had its highs and lows for me. I enjoyed the supernatural elements, appreciated the leads' performances, and liked the overall concept, but the inconsistent pacing and storytelling kept it from being something truly special. It's not a drama I'd call amazing, but I wouldn't call it a waste of time either.
