Yeah a govt official wrote a statement on how his portrayal of a general wasnt rugged enough and was too pretty. And then the hate train started from other media sites. It's actually crazy. Some people are pretty unhinged. Like you can criticize the production team but an actor's job is to bring the character to life. He did exactly that. I'm sure the insane surge in popularity for ZLH was also a catalyst for anti-fans to start nonsense. Either way its ridiculous.

First and foremost, the government doesn't have more important things to worry about then the entertainment industry? Like really? Beauty standards across the freaking world is a huge problem. But I digress, this is entertainment. If fans and people watching can't differentiate between realism and fiction, you have bigger problems. I think it's so ridiculous to attack an actor when his character is meant to be written that way from a novel. So it's not that this idea was just pulled out of thin air. Like of course all these actors and actresses can gain like 10-20 lbs. It's not only ZLH. And I'm not some super fan. But it's actually crazy that we have govt officials commenting on a drama that is purely freaking fiction. There must be no other world pressing matters at hand. Oh also you think everyone who joins the military starts off muscular and buff? No you go through intense training and then you eventually build that physique. From what I read, he actually built and gained muscle weight for the role. His only problem was he was too pretty? Then that's the filming crew issue. Entertainment is just that, its meant to entertain.

Loved her in New Life Begins, now I'm a major fan after POJ. Looking forward to her future dramas!!!

She's such a lovely actress and like you said very brave to post pictures of ZLH. I think a real friendship developed between the two and I would like to think that she was showing her support for him considering ZLH has been dragged through the mud in chinese media.

I always liked ZLH but POJ really made me a fan. I remember when his acting was still wooden but I saw his improvements in POJ. He spoke with his eyes and the micoexpressions were so point. The director really brought out the best of him and the other actors in the drama. Its very sad that his increase in popularity is also increasing his anti-fans. I can only hope he has a strong support system that can help him through this difficult time. He'll only become better at his craft and he's an insanely hard-working actor among his peers. I'm looking forward to his future projects.

Ah ok then my original point remains, the writing took a downturn for sure and things just didnt make sense. There are things I'm willing to overlook bc i totally understand sometimes certain things in the novel doesn't translate well onto screen. CY and XZ characterizations were being developed really well in the beginning and then it all began to feel so rushed. I do agree that way too much time was spent on the side couples esp since directors and writers know that the max time they have is 40 episodes. Though this will still remain as a favorite of mine, I can't help but feel a little bummed out if that makes sense.

Yeah the director is actually amazing. He really brought the best out in the actors and the cinematography is on point. The direction remains a 10 for me. I heard that there were multiple screenwriters for the script so that could be why it feels different. I still love the drama tho. The chemistry is fire between the leads :D

Edit: actually credits show only one screenwriter. I really think its the time constraints and episode limitations. Some dramas need more than 40 episodes. When properly written nothing is dragged out. But regardless, I still really like this drama and looking forward to finishing it! A gem for me in 2026!

I totally agree. It feels like another screenwriter took over. The pacing for the beginning half was so good and the writing too. Now it feels like a wet noodle. I think the time constraints and episode limitations sometimes really screws what couldve been a phenomenal drama.

First and foremost, I really like this drama. I think ZLH and TXW knocked it out of the park. For me personally, I think this is ZLH strongest performance. I liked him before, but this drama made me a fan. TXW I loved since her drama New Life Begins but this was def her shining moment. I think the director really knew how to bring out the best in all the actors. However, despite really liking this drama, starting from roughly episode 20 onwards, I feel like the writing really dropped off. The pacing and editing is very jarring but I can chalk that up to time constraints and episode limitation. We still have about 8 episodes to go but I don't expect the writing to be tight. It just felt like the latter half was written by a different screenwriter. The drama started off at a 9 for me but as of right now I would say its a solid 8. I think the drama wouldve benefited from being 45 to 50 episodes. I would still recommend bc the cast really brought the characters to life. I would love to see a second collab from the two main leads but don't know if that would ever happen but one can dream and hope lol.
