I’m late for your comment, but I think it’s a BE cause technically they aren’t together in the same timeline. She was sucked into the book he was seen holding at the end. And we find out that the heartbeat she hears is actually his because he was holding the book to his chest every once in a while to feel closer to her, but he doesn’t actually know she’s in the book. And the FL is shown as aged because she’s living in the book and thr ML isn’t aged because he is just a character in the book.

I too am an admirer of the dark, broody, & intense MLs in dramas. I found that there were a few good republican era short dramas that gave off those vibes. I think that time period had a lot of toxic traits that fulfilled those ML specifications. I enjoyed A Tale of Love and Loyalty, Part for Ever, Dong Lan Xue, & The Dangerous Lover. Some other I’ve watched (but didn’t have as detailed notes on so idk if they were as good dark/intense) were Circle of Love, Palms on Love, Extremely Perilous Love, & Miss Mystery. I also enjoy Yandere manga where a lot of the males can be quite dark and intense too, so you may like it too!

I’ve never watched the Chinese versions, but the Korean one is adapted from the Chinese versions. It basically follows the same plot though, girl gets thrown back in time and gets involved with a bunch of princes. There are two seasons (back in time and then modern) and a couple other spin-offs (Chinese and the Korean adaption included).
