I haven't seen episode 49, but I have read a brief back story of the golden lotus. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
So Mo Yuan and Ye Hua are actually twins, but at the time something happened to their mother so she could only conceive one child (which was Mo Yuan). Then she (or her husband?) placed Ye Hua's soul/spirit into the golden lotus. Then the father was taking care of the lotus to wait for it to take human form, but when Mo Yuan left to Kunlun Mountain he gave the lotus to Mo Yuan for safe keeping. Which is why we saw a Mo Yuan look-a-like back at Kunlun Mountain talking and sitting by Si Yin.
