The story might not be much but it was captivating for me and finished 8 episodes in a night. At first, it was a random watch on the Netflix but the two female leads acting were so amazing and finally the look of Kichii kept me wondering who this guy was. I then checked out the detail here while watching the first episode and found out that it was Kudo Auska, my favorite actor!! I had never seen him in such a dark character before and he could convince me that he was a freak Kichii. His character started to develop and I grew into him.
Nagono Mei appearance had changed so much from what I saw her in other dramas. I had no complaint on her acting whatsoever, she did a great job here. And as for Suzuki Kyota, she was such a badass mother that I loved. An amazing actress, indeed. The support character Yuzu as a lively girl added a more delightful moment to the drama. I liked her cheerful smiles.
Plot and Romance: I saw some people complain about the romance part. Here is how I felt. The best part of this drama was the fight of Mitarai Makiko as a person who want to own everything as her friend had. In addition, she forced her ambition onto her two sons. She showed how ambitious she was, she didn't stay idle but fought for it. However, the support element that added some sweetness into this drama was the romance between Kichii and Anzu. It was so gripping to see Kiichi character developing bit and piece in each episode as well as how the two are so supportive to each other. I could feel Anzu's feeling attaching to a smart and kind young Kichii when they were kids. (As I was one like that.) He had a special place in her heart and when they met again, it just happened; although the new Kichii freaked her out at the beginning. I smiled from ear to ear when watching Anzu confessed to Kichii and my heart thropped and got warm when she asked Kiichi to come to her in the last episode. It was so beautiful.
Summary: A good drama with romance. I don't feel any boring part. Besides, the first main lead name should belong to Suzuki Kyota, our badass Mitarai Makiko, in my opinion. Her acting is everything in this drama.

You are right. I am quite disapointed with the investigation process including FL reaction to ML as her boss. Even though one is a badass detective, but we wouldn't say in that mono-tone to your boss as well as leftout the polite form. She was just a rookie!!! I watched the Chinese version and I like it. Normally, Thai adaptations of crime drama are pretty well done. I watched Thai adaptation of, for example, Voice, Bad Guys and Hello Monster (Remember You), and I like them all.
I am on episode 17 and my summary so far is as follows: the plot/storyline is simply excellent, the FL and ML chemistry is superb, all the casts are great (those support roles are handsome and attractive and act well), the visual graphics e.g. the ship scenes are better than expecting, the production in general is top.
Anyone knows to watch this? It's no longer on Prime Video (also the sequel).

Currently, I am watching this version up to episode 5. I peeped a bit into 2020 version, but I think Tony Leung portray the character of Siu Yu Yee better. The 2005 version has a different interpretation of the novel though. Even with Dicky Cheung in the drama, I think I like this version more.
I am so sorry for Lao Hao. He has been in love with Xu Lai for a long time ... he has done a lot of things for her but we can't force love. I am so sad for him. However, I like that Xu Lai can sort out her feeling quite well. Zhang RuoNan is very beautiful and the more I watch this drama, the more I like her. She has become my favorite actress now. I Love William Chan and Zhang RuoNan. They make a wonderful couple!
I have one worry tho!! It looks like after tomorrow episodes they will be officially together so what conflict…
I doubt that too but I hope the rest of the story will be good as well. I guess there will come some obstacles about her work, yet two stories of two second lead couples remain to be told. Anyway, I keep watching since I really enjoy seeing how the relationship of Xu Lai and Jin Sichuan blooms so much.
