I'm usually very patient with how silly and cliché manga adaptations can be. Probably more patient than most. But this drama was too much even for me. It felt like they literally used a manga book as the script and made zero changes to adapt to the fact that its a liveaction drama and not a comic. Everything was just painfully bad. I had second hand embarrassment for the actors for having to perform the cringe lines and actions that were impossible to make natural. I only suffered through it because i'm a fan of Good Morning Call and Dori
100% agree with everyone saying the FL was annoying. I have nothing against the concept of a "weak" FL who need to be saved etc. But to the extent that Ah Ro was completely useless was sooo frustrating. She did nothing but go around pouting, glaring and crying. Ah Ra also doesnt have the appearance to pull that type of character off imo. She has more of a fierce look, compared to for example IU in scarlet heart who played a similar "useless" FL but pulled it off better because she just has that innocent face. In Ah Ra's defence, the stylist did her dirty. Her dresses made her look like a chubby ahjumma and her hairstyle was unflattering. Hwarang was still very entertaining all the way through and worth watching though. The hwarang plot was interesting, tho very confusing since i dont know much about the real history of it. There's also quite a few plot holes that were just abandoned and forgotten.
Had higher expectations bc of all the positive things i had heard, but it was pretty disappointing to me tbh. I can see why people like the questioning of the point of marriage, but I just found it boring and overdramatic as it kept dragging on and being the center of attention in ever relationship. Also found the progression of the main couples relationship a bit unnatural. If you want more of a "realistic" mature romance themed drama, then sure go ahead. Not really my taste tho
I was put off by the overly silly comedy at first, but it is worth sticking through it! It is a sweet and lighthearted drama worthy of squeezing into your schedule. Dont take it too seriously, and you'll enjoy all the sweetness
