Am I the only one underwhelmed by Mizukawa's acting? Nakatani Miki again showed why she's one of Japan's biggest name in her portrayal of Tohno Risa, a successful but vulnerable writer who's stuck in a rut with a controlling aging mother and a spoilt brat for a son.
I also think the world of publishing and writers depicted in this drama is a lot tamer and nicer than in real life. At least Tohno Risa was aware from the start of the ghostwriting deal that she was doing wrong, and Kawahara was lucky to be surrounded by more people with conscience who were willing to stand by her than bastards.
I was about to add this to my to-watch list because of it's rating, but hell that amount of episodes... I can't…
Asadora is morning drama broadcast at 8am every morning so they are quite sanitized to cater to people of all ages and backgrounds. I think the series really picked up after 18 episodes but overall it's more well-written an poetic than the other 6 asadoras I've seen.
I'm even more impressed by Munetaka than Kimura. Munetaka's role doesn't get any character development but his attention to details like gesture, expression and voice control makes for the most convincing cop on Jdramas I've seen in years.
The colorful imagery arrested my attention. I miss a lot of layers of innuendos but the series look pretty good so far and lead character is a frequent collaborator with Kudo Kankuro so fans of Tiger&Dragon the masterpiece will probably love this.
I think this drama is better than the rating indicates. It's purported to be a comedy family series but it contains a lot of realistic, thoughtful conversations about the contrast between the bubbly economy generation and their offspring, what it means to chose a solitary life and the elders' quest to get back a bit of the carefree lifestyle they had sacrificed during their youth to contribute to their country.
I've found my favorite Jdrama time slot: Friday 8pm. Sanbiki no Ossan, Tsuri Baka Nisshi, Keishicho Zero Gakari and the likes are purely entertaining comedies featuring funny duos with great chemistry and comedic timing. The fact that the series is set within a police office made of incompetent, discarded officers makes it more forgiving than other series of the same genre. This series reminds of Jiko Keisatsu and both of them go way beyond expectation.
This sounds so weird and hilarious that I feel that I have to watch this. Problem is, will anyone want to sub…
I believe most series adapted from mangas are more likly to get subbed, especially when it starred an ex AKB idol. In case you're still interested, the subbed 1st ep is available on dramanice.
Anything with Endo Kenichi is an instant watch for me. Whoever came up with the idea of pitting Kenichi as a straightlaced businessman against Atsuro as a narcissistic, spoilt salaryman is a genius.
Is this show good? I've always had positive watching experiences with NHK series. Unfortunately, it seems like most watch-worthy shows this season haven't been subbed
She had a great performance in Zouka no Mitsu and showed that you don't have to roll your eyes, grind your teeth and laugh hysterically to play a psychopath.
Where's Dan Rei in the cast? She played the lead character as a smart, elegant femme fatale who can bewitched the most experienced cop. Dan Rei showed that you don't have to use too much hip shaking and vulgar, contorted facial expression to play a sexy and bold criminal.
Another overlooked WOWOW production that keeps me on the edge until the last episode. It also helps that the series boast a strong cast who all did their jobs superbly.
I liked this but a bit lacking though - I wish it has wittier insights on life, relationships, 'mature' women…
I agree. The 7.9 score seems a bit generous for a drama which is not gutsy and bold enough to dig deeper into the issue of the prejudice against mature women in the Japanese society.
A hilarious satisfactory midnight comedy series that's much better than the title and the synopsis suggest, thanks in large part to Hamada Gaku's comedic ability.
