Acting, directing and editing were the saving graces of this disappointing film. Unbelievable, unrealistic and very predictable. In fact, the only thing that wasn't predictable was how dumb all characters were, especially those two outrageously incompetent policemen...
Bitter-sweet, inspiring but too predictable and 'noisy'. Definitely not the best work of Kamio Fuju (he did put a lot of effort but he was a mismatch). But, knowing this is based on a true story and a real person, it hits different and most of its mishaps can be overlooked.
A samurai historical fiction about a group of expendable strong peasants forming the Ichigeki (One strike, One kill) squad, trained to attack and run away -and no defense whatsoever- while carrying out missions against Satsuma han. Though the film is not so informative about the political backdrop of the Meiji Restoration, the cast (especially the three main leads) and their characters make this an enjoyable watch, at least for the lovers of this genre.
Dark, violent and enigmatic, though flawed, dated and not really convincing. Too bad Cho Seung Woo's twisted, mysterious (and kinda sexy) serial killer character wasn't fully utilized.
An anthology movie of five stories about family and friendship, bonding, arguing and making amends, as well as character development, realising one's dreams and the pursuit of a better life. It would have been much better if the comic elements were less pronounced.
"A life isn't valued by what one receives, but by what one gives."
A whimsical tragi-comedy -spiced with musical elements- told in flashbacks/glimpses into the troubled, frivolous and vibrant life of Matsuko. With an outstanding cinematography, full of vivid colours and an outlandish as well as unforgettable style, this jarring sarcastic fairytale isn't for everyone, but definitely deserves a try.
After a promising start for something unconventional and innovative, unfortunately this ended up being a rather disappointing, below average romcom with the usual cliches. Sloppy writing and directing, with an annoying, childish FL who kept breaking the 4th wall unnecessarily too many times and an intriguing, mysterious ML who transformed into someone ordinary and predictable in the blink of an eye...
Series is now complete and on my website. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and can share your thoughts on my site. https://cincensuradramas.wordpress.com/subs/4/Colabore…
A dark and gritty story of love, loneliness and revenge. Predictable in most parts and slow-paced, but the mystery and complexity surrounding the main leads, the melancholic vibes, cinematography and setting, as well as the nuanced performances of Jeon Do Yeon and Kim Nam Gil and their compelling chemistry, were enough reasons to make this an absorbing watch.
Based on true events, this biopic tells the story of Wang Jicai and his devoted wife, who spent more than three decades on Kaishan island, a tiny rocky island serving as a Militia post for navigation and meteorological observations. Though the patriotic element was more enhanced than necessary, the realistic depiction of their poor living conditions, their endless battles against typhoons and rainstorms throughout the years, as well as their strong bonding made this film an interesting watch.
Nostalgic and uplifting, with a fantastic Shin Min Ah and a cute, young Cho Seung Woo. A biopic about The Devils, a Korean rock band, Singing and dancing rock'n'roll, with a not-so-subtle political subtext about the struggles and acts of defiance of young people against the repressive authorities.
A wholesome, heartfelt story of found family, parenthood and growth, with a surprising tearjerker twist. Though there are some directing and editing mishaps here and there, the stellar cast (Ishihara Satomi, Tanaka Kei, Nagano Mei, Okada Kenshi) definitely makes up for them.
A mixture of slice of life, coming of age and first love story in a picturesque rural village. Though the story was weak and slow-paced, the friendship among the pupils, the nostalgic, soothing feeling and the wonderful scenery made this film enjoyable.
A bittersweet road-trip musical with some powerful and heart-warming moments, some infuriating ones and a lot of cringy and extravagant music parts that most of the times felt out of place. I would have enjoyed it much more without those.
Interesting concept, promising start, disappointing ending. There were a lot of non-sensical actions from most characters, some far-fetched plot-twists and some over-acting that couldn't be ignored, but overall it wasn't that bad, but quite entertaining.
A visually and auditory stunning road-trip through the beauties of rural China. A subtle glance into urban and traditional Chinese life. An affectionate family reconciliation and character development story. A hidden gem!
