Hey, where is Okada Kenshi from Chugakusei Nikki, the drama that won in the 2018 Japanese Drama Polls in kisskh? Only 19 years old, but... as one one viewer puts it, "So expressive, so charismatic!" And, young though he is, he's almost an anomali as a "Japanese" guy, whom I find mostly acts with a dead-pan expression and zero-emoting from the eyes! And such an eye-candy, with the added bonuses of that height & that voice! Such a complete package of manly beauty to drool on. He'll be a threat to watch out for--especially for his seniors, all my fave actors like Yamapi, Fujioka Dean, Okada Masaki, Miura Haruma, Sato Takeru & Miura Shohei.

Am just watching it, as the Eng subs were finally completed. LOVE IT! Esp the FL Wei Ying Luo! No damsel in distress here at all. In fact, she is so refreshingly courageous and witty, so brutally honest and transparent that she is truly worthy of carrying the burden of having to be present in ALL the episodes with the most screen time. Every time she appears, the people around her either want to embrace her in gratitude & love or kill her on the spot! No grey area for WYL--love her or hate her, but you CANNOT leave her!
Actually, this drama could also be titled "STORY OF WEI YING LUO" as SHE makes the story come alive, not the Emperor. So Wu Jin Yan (Wei Ying Luo) should have been put FIRST in the Cast List, not second, in my opinion. Anyone disagrees?
Her relationships with the Empress is so heart-warming, while her confrontations with the Emperor are quite surprising to watch, sometimes hilarious, sometimes vexing, even heart-wrenching, but always entertaining.
The rest of the Cast also perform extraordinarily well, down to the maids, the eunuchs, the imperial guards, the babies & even the cute, white Pekingese dog!
Although the overall production value is not as high as Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, Scarlet Heart: Ryeo or Empress Ki, the detailed executions of the costumes, accessories, make-up & hairstyles are particularly noteworthy. Also worth mentioning are the characters' deportment, facial expressions, hand gestures, and tone of voice--all convincingly able to transport us back to the Qing dynasty era. Bravo to the cast & crew!
Overall rating? 9 out 10 for me!
Rewatch Value: HIGH, even with 70 (SEVENTY) episodes!

Cathycat, I also HATE those bangs on the "modern" (Asian) men, regardless of their age and/or nationality (Koreans, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Taiwanese)!!! The hairstylists & production designers should've been executed for not having any creativity whatsoever. And it's been "in style" for decades now? Shame on them!

Sartorias, here are a list of my recent faves that have mostly happy ending, so not a waste of our time (with 50+episodes?):
Here are some of my faves:
- Oh My General!
- Untouchable Lovers
- Legend of Yun Xi
- Empress Ki (with Ha Ji Won my Goddess, and simply love Ji Chang Wook here, his looks AND his character--open-ending?)
- Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (ending is debatable, but ah, the Princes are all eye-candies)
- Legend of Fu Yao
- Heavy Sweetness, Ash-like Frost
- Cinderella Chef
- General & I
- Eternal Love (Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms)

To name just a few. Enjoy them!

The first HD I watched in this decade was "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" on TV, while the second thru streaming was "Empress Ki" because of Ha Ji Won & Ji Chang Wook. But decades ago, I already fell in love with HD thru "Legend of the Condor Heroes" & "Empress Wu."

And yes, abzzski, my fellow-fan of Oh, My General! I think at the time it was uploaded, there was more buzz on other dramas, that's why it's not buzz-worthy yet. I totally agree with you on the cast! I fell in love with Sandra Ma (The General) & Peter Sheng (the Hubby) because of this drama:-) So let's help promote this gem of a historical drama then.

Yes, thank you, Nymphadora! I also read your article from top to bottom, and even read the comments! Totally entertaining and-o-so-true. Especially the parts where you commanded the cutie-pies to come to us right NOW! And wanting Mark Chao in "Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms" to "hold us while we sleep"?
Oh, and you forgot to upload Song Wei Long's pic in "Untouchable Lovers"! The 19-year-old heart-throb totally didn't look his age in those gorgeous hair-styles! Just adore men with long, flowing locks, don't you? Beautifully masculine! NOT an oxymoron, though?

Have you watched Oh My General! Hilarious! The FL is the General, the ML is an "artiste" who loves fashion, interior design, flower arrangement & dancing! And when they danced, she held him while he gracefully arched backward:-) She always defended him physically with her weapons, and was not very literate, while he advised her on fashion, arts & etiquette. Talk about gender-bender!
