Question 1: The Essence of Nature collection by De Beers pays tribute to four kinds of trees. Which one do you feel represents you the most?
Rui: That’s a wonderful question. The ring I’m wearing today is from the Silver Bloom set of the Essence of Nature high-jewelry line by De Beers. Its inspiration is very romantic — it comes from the blue-violet orchids that bloom all over South Africa. Imagine a whole tree covered in blossoms, the sky filled with that majestic natural beauty. The blue-violet gradient was created using the ancient da ming huo fa lan enamel-fire technique, layer by layer, to reproduce the depth of color. The teardrop-shaped diamonds were cut to mimic delicate petals, full of motion. I think the orchid suits me well — it blooms fiercely and persistently, releasing all its stored energy to light up the spring. That strength and serenity mirror my own state of mind.
