they did the hiatus because of covid like many other dramas of that time... a lot of dramas took a week or 2 hiatus at that time and a lot of dramas released later than the scheduled date because someone from the cast and crew got affected by covid and they all give the same reason of improving... the drama was mainly targeted at korean audience as the writer never cared to explain the mythological creatures or their backstories to the international viewers and the drama did really well in korea... it had a constant rating throughout its run and never saw any big dip in its rating... about lee rang's death... it was inevitable... he has done too much bad things for him to have a happy ending... its the same as kwang dong yeon's character in vincenzo... kdrama rarely gives happy ending to characters that have done bad things in the past but turned a new leaf in the end... his ending was predictable...
