I've never seen the original and I didn't expect much from the trailer but it's still a bit childish and haphazard for my taste. Actually it just seems like a clumsy production with not much thought put into it. Dropped
I think it's the best among the recent dramas, I liked the chemistry between the child actress and ML. Amazing how a little kid managed to memorize so many lines for the show.
I don't think I've been very satisfied with any of the k-movies I watched this year. Even if this is one of the better ones I can't really say I enjoyed it. It's a decently executed dystopian drama with LBH's acting being the standout, but the narrative was pretty typical k-drama writing imo. I was expecting something more with the reviews and the fact that it's SK's entry for international film at the oscars.
Apart from the topic of the secondhand market it was a pretty standard thriller with a couple of faults, but effective nonetheless and more gruesome than I expected. The low budget was quite evident but the production wasn't too shabby. Though idk if it was my theatre but the sound was wayyy too loud at many points. Worked for the tension but not so great for my tinnitus. I would have given a solid 8/10 if the last 15 or so minutes were better thought out. So 7.5 seems appropriate.
Lol that random dragon in the trailer caught me off guard. I'm guessing they're using fantasy elements to visually depict the characters' psychology? It looks so absurd that I'm adding this to my list
This is one of those times I feel slightly disappointed by a very critically acclaimed show. It's definitely a very ambitious and high quality production in almost every aspect, but personally I felt the story and pacing left something to be desired. There were very touching moments elevated by the music and acting, but even for a slow burn show, there were too many backstories of different characters that were hit or miss for me, where scenes felt unnecessary and were carried by the cast. A couple of times I lost interest and felt the need to fast forward. Nevertheless, the overall message of the show is clear and good, and they wrapped up the show quite nicely. My personal rating is 8/10.
It's funny how I came across this on Netflix and just started it without any prior knowledge, and right off the bat it gave me major Taiwan high school romance movie vibes. Then a few episodes in it somehow reminded me of the Taiwanese movie Secret starring Jay Chou, so I searched it up and surely enough, it's a remake of a Taiwanese drama lol.
Just like all those zombie films, this is the sort of movie where you shouldn't expect any originality. The execution…
I'm not too sure about this either, but it seems that it's simply produced by the same company as Door Lock and they seem to be installments of a series of "lifestyle" thrillers. But it is essentially a completely separate film with no relation to it apart from the genre, though I've seen some audience reviews of Target saying the plot progression and style is very similar to DL. The production company might have plans to create more installments, maybe after reviewing the box office performance of this film.
It was great for 4 episodes, then the rest didn't interest me anymore. It went from sick, twisted and unpredictable to a very generic makjang plot at the end. I would've preferred the story to focus on Oh Nam's mom and Mo Mi tbh.
This looks really interesting in a very "korean", non-westernized way. Imo Korean shows do dark/brutal extremely well when they do it right, they really don't hold back.
The first 7 episodes were well made and mainly character introductions, maybe just a tad slow in some parts. I'm waiting for the plot involving the parents to begin, which I'm assuming will involve more scenes flaunting their budget.
There are so many movies like this with a young woman getting targeted by some psycho, I really hope they add…
Just like all those zombie films, this is the sort of movie where you shouldn't expect any originality. The execution is pretty much everything. This particular series (the prequel was Door Lock) seems to focus on realism. At least from the latest trailer the production quality looks more than decent and the main character doesn't seem passive, which are good signs.
Definitely a good but "could've been better" show, with good pacing overall, effective jump scares and a plot-driven story albeit with a few hiccups and slight logical holes. The technical aspects of the show are flawless with well done special effects and great camerawork. Despite being an addicting watch though, several characters are written with rather shallow backgrounds that make me understand their motivations but fail to emotionally hook me. The characters benefit from the actors who are playing them, with Kim Tae Ri putting on an expansive performance while Oh Jung Se's talent is under utilized. The most in-depth characterizations you get are from the heartbreaking backstory of two young girls shown towards the end. The show also scratches the surface of interesting ideas but doesn't go much deeper than surface level. Nevertheless, the show wraps up with a satisfying ending with a memorable message that feels out of the blue but in fact was slightly hinted at throughout the show.
I am shocked !!! There were 16 episodes planned previously but they reshot the episodes and trimmed it to fit…
If that's true, there's an entire 25% cut out from the show. It actually shows that several scenes were skipped and the chronological flow is disjointed. I would be seriously pissed if I were someone who worked on the show. I guess that's why Netflix originals are at an advantage in this aspect as they trust the makers with all creative control. I heard another drama having to cut out episodes as well, and the director(?) ended up protesting and got the unaired episodes up (I think it was Anna starring Suzy).
This feels like a huge project that will either be amazing or underwhelming. But from the trailers it looks like a 20-hour action movie spanning across 2 generations which sounds pretty hard to not watch. Also how are Han Hyojoo and Jo Insung already playing parents of teenager(s)? I'm getting old!
My personal rating: 8/10
