re: the age gap ~ please stop infantilising a grown, adult woman on what role she can/cannot choose to do.
do ya'll get this salty about every age gap in dramas, movies, tv shows around the world? were you this riled up over wolf of wallstreet? first example to cross my mind but there's plenty more.
i swear ya'll infantilise asian women too much. it's a job just like any other. they're paid actors trying to work.
now if the script or the behind the scenes behaviour was problematic, that's a different story.
yeah the 3rd episode had me mentally down, I did not expect that.
Yo I was DISTRAUGHT! I really didn't think they would go through with it. I was so sure they'd somehow all survive? But wow... My heart still breaks thinking about that episode lol
I think Squid Game's very explicit commentary on capitalism was a relatable theme that branched beyond just normal kdrama fans. There's also the sense of realism. Yes, it is kind of far-fetched but in a dystopian world, would I be surprised if a bunch of uber rich people forced the impoverished and indebted into a game of survival? Not at all. But Alice in Borderland, you just have no idea how any of this is possible. There's a fantastical element there that's unexplained and not everyone likes that. But back to themes, I'd say Alice in Borderland's theme is a bit more obscure and their games are more psychologically disturbing which is something Japanese movies/dramas do well - that survival horror genre like cult classic Battle Royale - which is less digestible for the wider audience. Alice in Borderland is for people who enjoy this type of genre but Squid Game is far more appealing to the general public which isn't to say it's a bad thing. They both set out to achieve different goals and I think they both did so very well. They're similar in premise but very different in execution and output.
For me, personally, I much prefer Alice in Borderland because this type of genre is exactly what I like. I feel the games are far more high stakes, more intriguing and terrifying. I was very emotionally gripped by the characters within 3 episodes but it took me a lot longer to get attached to Squid Game characters. Alice in Borderland just hit all the right notes for me.
this is really rude for fans of siwon :-/ there's no need to be so negative about him. don't like him then don't…
no you said "i was excited but that was cos my eyes glazed over siwon" implying that you were excited until you saw his name. maybe you don't consider that hate but it is disrespectful. no matter how you try to spin your comments, it wasn't really one that opens discussion - at least not one that is respectful and courteous to people who may like siwon. if you wanted to open up a discourse, you could've said "i haven't clicked with anything siwon has been in before but i like the actresses so we'll see with this drama." you're still expressing your opinion but you're doing so without being disrespectful.
also, do you know siwon personally? did he insult you to your face? i really don't think i'm out of touch with reality and "need to touch grass" just because i think people of all walks of life deserve respect online or offline. doesn't matter if they're celebrities.
anyway, i realise you probably won't see my point of view whatsoever or respond to me in any respectful way either, going by how patronising your responses have been, so have a nice day regardless

for people to come together and find a good community of fellow drama lovers. not to come in here and see unnecessary hate thrown at actors/actresses they like. if i wanted to see that, i'd be on twitter.
your opinion is yours. valid. whatever. but doesnt mean everything you think needs to be voiced out. being respectful isn't hard.
After the disappointing River Where Moon Rises I hope this will be the historical drama that will save 2021 for…
Omg this. I was so excited for RWTMR but wow was it disappointing. I really hope Red Sky and Bossam: Stealing the Fate saves historical dramas for 2021 ;-; Gimme romance, angst and action!
I was really worried you'd say except Mun hehe... He is precious and I love him so much! Can't wait to learn more about why he's so special in S2 (hopefully)!
omg nam ji hyun and choi tae joon are back together for another drama!! i hope theyre good friends in this like in suspicious partner. their dynamic there was so much fun! (also d.o. looks really good with long hair!)
Wow. Really glad the production team took action though... like that's more than what Hollywood has done in the past (although the culture is changing).
I grew up with lakorns in the background. I've even watched one or two in my lifetime, but everything you just mentioned is why I hate Thai lakorns with a burning passion. I'm so ashamed of my own country for its dumb backwards writing. Too much of lakorns are rooted in misogynistic beliefs, ie. that women should be under the control of the patriarch. Thai lakorns are watched by almost the entire country and tend to cater to the general populous and there's this classist belief that those of a lower class need to be talked down to, thus why Thai lakorns are so basic and so ridiculous. But lakorns are owned by giant media conglomerations, who churn out lakorns quickly, meaning the quality is usually very bad. It's quantity over quality and since actors/actresses are signed by these conglomerations, they tend to have control over who stars in them as well. Also, quality of Thai acting in lakorns is about as ridiculous as the plots tbh.
(Lmao can you tell how much I hate them? XD)
It's truly a shame because Thai movies and dramas not owned by these conglomerations aren't that bad and some are even really quite progressive.
i really like L but i'm not sure about Go Ah Ra. i keep watching her dramas but i'm never impressed by her acting. she does choose good dramas tho so i might watch this anyways lol
