Finished watching but I must say the drama took dramatic turns, probably for the closure. More and more meaningless actions started to happen which I couldn't ignore.
I just finished episode 19 and I must say it was utterly nonsense. I know the era was different but I still can't find it justifiable people doing anything without any regard. How could a foreign minister change a rail route and barge into some nobel's house and start destroying the houses? Even if it was a commmoner's house, it wouldn't have made sense, let alone a famous nobel's house.
A powerless king, Japanese hanging a Joseon's corpse in the middle of the city, barging into some temple and start killing people, etc. Woah!!! While I'm enjoying the overall show, I just couldn't help loathing this episode.
Woah! Just what I wanted. Although I gave it 8.5, I wasn't really satisfied with the choices/decisions they made. They, somehow, felt wrong to me. The whole drama talks about choices/decisions as well as self-happiness but ends up saying- you cannot live alone. That, imo, should give ample reasons to account others around you while making decisions which, unfortunately, wasn't the case here.
Nonetheless, it was kinda fresh, after a long while.
Also, I kind of liked that they didn't jump to the past too much. Sometimes those jumps pull you away from the…
Maybe! Though I don't seem to be able to connect with anyone. There, really, wasn't much of an emotional connection except they all had the same goal in mind, in my opinion. And that, to me, wasn't big enough for the whole drama to revolve around. But yeah, everyone has their own preference. And it did a good regardless.
I think the crying was closer to a nervous breakdown the enormous stress day after day they are under. Their target…
I agree to an extent, but it didn't really feel like a good approach, given the situation. Also, I think the outcome was overly exaggerated. I obviously didn't hope for the negative, but I didn't expect them all to have passed the exam and on top, with highest ever rate or whatever.
With dramas as such, I personally feel like they should keep reality in check. They cannot just show everything work out eventually.
Edit: Never mind, just realized that it's based on a true story.
The only story i find it interesting now they wanted to fu*kdup with that story to.... I was like to the writer…
Exactly my thought. My rating for the drama has already dropped significantly but if it continues like this and they indeed fall for each other, I'll sure drop it.
It felt a little too dramatic, seeing everyone crying and all. Also, Ms Zhang just talked about the fault in our education system and how we should instead nurture the students a few minutes ago. But now she's forcing everyone to study. I understand it's their only chance and their future depends on it but that still didn't feel right to me.
At episode 10 now.Although female centric, I wonder why almost all men are shown as so pathetic. They are even…
Idk why I'm continuing to watch this drama. Maybe, I'm too free or else I'm sure I'd have dropped it already.
At episode 20 now. The drama has both rational & irrational characters. I don't understand why the rational ones never try to correct the irrational ones until something worst happens. Or why the irrational ones never come to the realization that they are/were wrong.
Although female centric, I wonder why almost all men are shown as so pathetic. They are even living off of their wives' income.
And it's honestly starting to feel super unrealistic. The actions of the FL's mum are beyond one's tolerance level. I understand the hardship she may have gone through to raise her kids and that everything she's doing is what she thinks is best for their kid. Yet that doesn't mean she can decide everything for her kid, and it makes no sense that someone of that age would keep on obeying, no matter what. Someone's been in a relationship for over 7 years and yet she does not even know about her partner's families. Someone's been chasing a guy for over years. Someone easily barges into someone's home/office, etc. etc. They are just beyond my level of imagination.
Finally gave it a try and just finished watching. I guess, it deserves the hype it has.
I was so invested, watching day & night. I think it was the acting that had me hooked up.
Not a critic but I think it would have been great had they shown a little bit of the past instead of just idealizing the past, the people and their bond. I may have missed the details, but I didn't find the reason for that incident to be of that great importance for the whole story to revolve around.
Also, I really couldn't understand some of the characters' roles, Fei Liu, for example. It doesn't seem like he has anything to do with the whole story.
Nevertheless, it's indeed a great drama with very few plot holes unlike many others.
I honestly don't understand why everyone loves this drama and I cannot. While main leads are somewhat OKish, the story and acting behind 2nd leads (Feng Jiu & Dijun) is too much for me.
Though I liked the first half, I don't seem to like the way it's going forward. Honestly, I couldn't figure out…
Finished! Just as expected, didn't really enjoy the 2nd half. To me, it felt like it took a 180 turn. I had to force myself to continue. If not for the hype it has, I would have dropped it midway. The endings for many were not befitting, to me.
I often question myself why everyone's so clever or so stupid, why everything's so one-sided, and even more stupid questions like- is it even that hard to get pregnant? Why do the villains always not have any child to start with? And if they could easily kill one concubine without any mishaps, why do they need that extra plotting to kill another? So on and so on...
It may just be my stupidity...
Though, I must say the acting is top-notch. I especially liked Consort Fluer and the Empress' actings.
My overall score- 7

Even though it started great, I find it slow tbh. And so far, only 2nd daughter's story seems interesting.
