This is the most delightful and promising drama I've watched in a long time! Really fun to watch, but also with a solid plotline to go with it. Kim Hye Yoon is absolutely owning it and giving an amazing performance. As for Ro Woon... damn, the guy should be in a museum, because he's certainly a piece of art!
God, that scene with Chan Seong breaking down just when he saw the poster for Man Weol's favourite show, after he was shown keeping it together so well... So real, and played so naturally. Just like when you're cleaning out your drawers on a fine morning and you come across an old t-shirt your recently-became-an-ex had bought you, so suddenly you become a crying mess.
Definitely not inspired by a real event that happened to me a few days ago. Nope! *awkward giggle, then staring into the void*
To people who's currently watching this kdrama, is it good so far?
It's good, but for me it felt quite a bit lacking, story wise. Like a case of all flash, no substance. So many people love it, though, so you should give it a try!
I love My Ajusshi but I can’t seem to find it to watch now. Pasta is a very different show and, for some reason,…
Well his voice is just that good *_* For me it was the opposite, I couldn't get used to him in Pasta after watching My Mister! Of course, I had other issues with the show as well - but it works differently for everyone!
Just to add to the list, a few examples from kdramaland:
Park Cha Oh Reum (Miss Hammurabi) Han Jung Oh & Ahn Jang Mi (Live) Go Ae Sin & Hina Kudo (Mr. Sunshine) Han Yeo Jin (Stranger) Ahn Young Yi (Misaeng) All 3 protagonists of Search WWW
Honestly, as time goes by, I find there's more and more strong female leads on TV and that's very promising!
Everyone has their own opinion on the dramas they like, so I'll just say that it's a shame to have an actor with a deep, melodic voice like Lee Sun Kyun's and then make him scream all the time, as the case is in Pasta! Don't know why you'd rather not watch My Ajusshi, but I highly recommend it, since he really shines through it :)
This might seem very superficial, but isn't Park Ki Woong exceptionally handsome in this? I recently rewatched some Bridal Mask episodes and the difference is so stark! Every time the Crown Prince enters the scene and especially when he smiles I'm totally mesmerised!
Can I get an AMEN (pun totally intended) for the fantastic cinematography at the end of episode 8? The camera panning out from behind Ji Kang Woo's back, elongating his dark shadow , and bam! wings grow... Don't want to be overdramatic, but it gave me the chills O:)
"I feel like the importance of the music in kdramas is often overlooked"Agreed. Tbh, I'd rather have cheap visuals…
You do have a point there. Although, I have to say I'm always surprised at the amount of effort that goes into making original songs for every new drama - lots of them kinda resemble one another as cheesy ballads, but I find some songs I enjoy every time. (Except if it's The Heirs, heh...) Maybe it's the fact that we associate the songs with our favourite shows. When there's good instrumental music, though, it can change the show completely, so it's true that there could be more effort into that. A prime example would be the music in Stranger.
thank you for saying that, your comment made me smile real wide :) and yeah LIVE was so good, i'll add them to…
I didn't watch that many 2018 seasonals, but I also found some songs that I liked out of dramas I didn't watch as well, so here's a few:
- The whole OST of Prison Playbook, which may have started in 2017 but ended in 2018 (especially the songs Bravo My Life, That's The Way It Goes, Like A Dream and OK) - Home by Ha Dong Kyun (Life) - Thirty Waltz by Tarin (Thirty but Seventeen) - You Are The Apple Of My Eye by Umb-5 feat. Sam Carter (Miss Hammurabi) - Heart Is Beating Just Like That (Terius Behind Me) - Wonderful Life and Other World (Bad Guys: Vile City) - Something by George & Kang Hye In (My ID is Gangnam Beauty) - Mystic World by O.WHEN (Where Stars Land) - Don't Cry by KLANG (Misty) - Return by Ronny Chu (Return)
You also mentioned The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, Lawless Lawyer and Life on Mars, so I guess you've already listened to Lost, Burn It Up and Agnes. Lastly, since you're watching Children of Nobody, let me share my love for the OST - especially Moonlight by Lee Ba Da. Hope you find something you like out of those!
Thank you for this article! I feel like the importance of the music in kdramas is often overlooked, but it factors so much in our enjoyment. Kudos for your choices! I think we can all agree that My Mister OST was overall of top notch quality, and so fitting to the show. I bet it was hard to pick just one of the songs! (Also, props for including Golden Goat and Somewhere - I haven't watched either, but the songs are so good!) I'll be checking your playlist as well and I'll also add two of my favourite OSTs of the year, from two dramas that were also my favourite:
- Someday, Somehow by Umb-5 feat. Hodge (Miss Hammurabi) - After A Day by Han Dong Geun (Live)
Definitely not inspired by a real event that happened to me a few days ago. Nope! *awkward giggle, then staring into the void*
