I swear, I was absolutely HOOKED. This was not just a political melodrama or a bloody revenge plot—it was the absolute intelligence of a woman, her sheer faith, and poetic justice all coming together. There’s a difference between scheming and being genuinely intelligent, and I felt that kind of intelligence here. Xue Fang Fei’s journey was so satisfying to watch.
Though the last episode was a bit of a love-hate situation for me, the overall arc was really nice. I especially loved the mature love that developed between two people who had both been through so much. The yearning was EPIC. 😭❤️ The actors absolutely ATE their characters. The chemistry between Duke Su and Xue Fang Fei was amazing, and honestly, even her chemistry with her ex-husband, Shen Yurong, was really good.
My original inspiration to watch this drama was THAT scene where Duke Su holds the pendant between his lips while fighting. 😭 I had to wait way too long to finally see it, but it was worth it. Though, unpopular opinion: I honestly think it would have been more realistic if Duke Su had died in the war or had suffered an injury that meant he could never fight again. Him simply coming back from what seemed like a dead end felt a little too convenient and weird to me.
The deaths of both of Duke Su’s subordinates were absolutely heartbreaking and honestly, they deserved so much better. 😭 Special mention to Tong’er—the character was so beautifully written. I literally cried when she died, and the same goes for Xue Fang Fei’s cousins. 💔
Even to the princess was a bad charcter, her story makes me kinda sad tbh.
And THE ARCHERY COMPETITION SCENE at the academy!!! That upside-down shot was EPIC. 🔥 The visuals throughout the drama were absolutely gorgeous, and the cinematography was stunning. However, I do feel the ending was rushed and could have been given more time.
My favourite part was how everything came full circle. When Xue Fang Fei returned from the temple and entered a courtyard named Fang Fei Courtyard, I LOVED that detail. 🥹 It felt like such a beautiful little full-circle moment, especially considering everything she had gone through. And then there was the parallel of the story starting with Xue Fang Fei running in that red dress on the mountain and ending with her running toward the pear blossom tree. 🌸
And those quiet little moments—Duke Su sleeping while Xue Fang Fei waited, and later Duke Su simply sitting there admiring her while she rested—were EVERYTHING. 🥹❤️ It was such a beautiful way to show how far their relationship had come.
Overall, the visuals, characters, intelligence of the plot, yearning, romance, and poetic justice made this such a great watch.

Different and peaceful

I just completed watching this drama, and honestly, nothing fancy... but the characters were smart and powerful, the plots were nice, and the ML and FL weren’t just helpless lovers waiting to be saved. It was such a good watch and genuinely made me very happy. 🥹💗
The plot was engaging and never really bored me. The pacing was alright, and the main leads had amazing chemistry. The actors performed really well, and some scenes were genuinely heartbreaking for me. I especially loved the angst between the ML and FL. The FL was so cheerful, and I absolutely loved her personality. 🥹 The ML’s character arc was absolutely amazing, and I loved seeing how much his character developed throughout the story.
I also loved how all the female characters were upright, capable, and independent. Special mention to the Dowager Queen because she was SO good! 👑 I love dramas with a protective ML and a smart FL, and this one definitely gave me that. The visuals were beautiful and soothing, and I especially loved the fight scenes. Some details really stood out to me, like the ML’s home and the FL’s looks, especially her appearance during the first marriage. ✨
But this one quote... “When will I become the first person you turn to when you need help?” 🥹💔 That line has my whole heart. The ending was so nice and satisfying, and I genuinely finished this drama with such a happy feeling.
I will absolutely rewatch this one. 💗

Plot potential to be a long drama

just completed watching the shadow shoverigen, and I watched this drama, of course, for Kong Xue'er. Princess Li Shu—the character was perfect! The drama was mid tbh, though the plot had potential. I know that even though this is more of a short drama,but after watching mainstream dramas for so long, the set felt bland..the ai scenes were obvious.I love the character of Cui Jinzhi; it was very well made. Shen Xiao was nice, but Li Hongyi is more suitable for richer, authoritative characters, not humble characters. The main leads didn't really had that tension and chemistry, it wasn't really giving I hated the character of the Emperor—he is such a bad emperor! Actually, all the other characters were just a bunch of fools and greedy... anyways...Kinda 4/10 I would say. I was excited for Kong Xue'er and I watched it. Tbh, nothing special. But, but, but... spoiler alert: the crashing hug scene when Princess Li Shu was running away was really epic!

a warm hug

I must say—this has to be one of the best-constructed dramas I’ve watched. It might feel slow at first, but the buildup, the construction, the focus, the costumes, the character development, the plot, and the ending were all so beautifully done. Nothing felt rushed, and every character had a proper story and purpose.
What I loved most was how gently the drama navigated through each character’s trauma, illness, and emotional scars. It wasn’t just a revenge story; it was a story about people carrying so much pain and slowly learning how to live with it. After completing the series, I genuinely felt a strange sense of calm wash over me. 🥹 It felt like a warm hug. A very peaceful and rightful revenge story, where the drama actually did justice to its characters.
Every character felt like a puzzle piece, and the more I watched, the more the bigger picture came together. The story was full of twists, trauma, hidden layers, and symbolism, yet everything eventually connected. I especially loved how the drama showed that authority doesn’t need a loud voice. Ye Li’s calmness, intelligence, and capability were enough. She could show an entire enraged storm through a calm face, while Mo Xiu Yao could express so much through his eyes—the pain, love, restraint, and yearning were all there. Their relationship was especially beautiful because the love was shown through actions and quiet yearning rather than relying on intimate scenes. ❤️
Ye Li’s character growth was amazing. She initially cared for Mo Xiu Yao as part of repaying a debt, but slowly, through everything they went through together, she genuinely fell in love with him. Watching that transition happen so naturally was one of my favourite parts of the drama. And Mo Xiu Yao’s journey was equally beautiful.
I also absolutely loved the way the drama portrayed mental trauma and its aftereffects. Kinshu’s character was so beautifully made—the contrast between the calm Ye Li, her maid, the soft and childlike Kinshu, and the hallucinations created such an interesting portrayal of trauma. I loved the character who helped Kinshu as well, especially seeing how he eventually settled down with the musician. 🥹
Some of the side characters broke my heart. I felt especially sorry for Mo Xiu Yao’s sister-in-law, Wen Ran. Her story was so unfortunate. Ye Li’s sister, Ye Ying, also had such a difficult journey, and I genuinely felt sad for her. The death of Princess Ling Yun was heartbreaking too. And Mo Xiu Yao’s best friend’s story absolutely destroyed me—the feeling that they were finally going to be happy, only for that happiness to be taken away later, was devastating. 💔 I also loved the assassin brothers. Somehow, even the side characters felt complete because the drama actually gave them their own stories and endings.
The Mountain Academy storyline was heartbreaking as well. Seeing what happened there and how the powerful nobles treated everyone was painful, but honestly, the enemies had it coming. The revenge felt satisfying because it wasn’t just revenge for revenge’s sake—it had meaning behind it.
The visual direction was another thing I really appreciated. The drama wasn’t excessively grand or overloaded with elaborate costumes and ornaments. Everything felt intentional. The costumes were simple but beautiful, and every character’s dressing reflected something about them. I especially loved Wen Ran’s costumes—at the beginning, she barely cared about herself, and later, as she slowly began to heal and find herself again, the colours and details of her clothing seemed to come back too. Those little details made the world feel much more thoughtfully constructed.
Even the CGI and fantasy elements didn’t feel fake or distracting. They blended surprisingly well with the story. There weren’t many huge fight scenes, but the moment when Mo Xiu Yao did that DRIFT with his wheelchair??? 😭🔥 That was ICONIC and definitely stood out to me.
The pacing was very slow in the beginning, and initially the drama felt almost cold and distant. But honestly, I think the slow pacing was NECESSARY. If this story had been rushed, it would have completely lost its depth. The suspense was peak, and the plot was unpredictable enough that I became completely engrossed. It was the kind of drama where you slowly uncover one layer after another.
One of my favourite things was the symbolism. The stick man, the revenge, the costumes, the hallucinations—all of it had meaning. And I especially loved the full-circle moment when Ye Li returned to the camp in desperation and, unlike the previous time when she couldn’t see her husband, this time she actually found Mo Xiu Yao there. And there was no Kinshu anymore. No imaginary maid. It felt like Ye Li had finally let go of that part of herself. 🥹
And the ending!!! I loved how every character got an ending that actually suited their journey. Ye Li and Mo Xiu Yao finally got their happiness after everything they had endured. Wen Ran and her son were able to live peacefully and actually begin living their lives. The Emperor finally secured the throne and had someone he could genuinely trust beside him. Even the man who was losing his eyesight found someone who stayed with him, cared for him, and helped him heal.
And Mo Xiu Yao’s best friend carrying the princess’s portrait, travelling around the world with the flowers, and eventually living the simple life she had once imagined for herself—that was so beautiful. He didn’t live the grand life of a nobleman; he lived the quiet, simple life she wanted: a small shop, a small family, and travelling the world. That ending was SO close to my heart. 🌸😭
Even the final moments felt peaceful. Nothing was unnecessarily rushed, and I never had that feeling of, “Wait, but what happened to this character?” Everyone’s journey had been given a proper conclusion.
To be honest, I absolutely adore Ye Li and Mo Xiu Yao. Cheng Lei was actually one of my primary reasons for starting this drama, but by the end, it was the STORY and the characters that made me stay. The cast was absolutely perfect, and the performances were amazing.
This drama felt like a puzzle—the more you watched, the more the picture came together. It was layered, symbolic, emotional, unpredictable, and surprisingly peaceful.
And I loved it. Like, REALLY loved it. 🥹❤️
Absolutely recommend watching this. 100% rewatch-worthy.

PERFECT, cuz the plot was perfect, the plot twists were crazy and back to back the Chaos was perfect, the scheme, strategy, the politics were perfect, the redemption was perfect, the fights were perfect, the visuals were perfect, the music was perfect the ending was perfect, idk what I expected from this drama but what ever this is I needed it, the complete portray of love and yearning through eyes and expression, no kiss or adult scenes, amazing,9.8/10, the actors just ate and left no crumbs, worth watching.
I feel sad for ppl who are dropping the drama for the age gap between the actors.

Mu first fantasy drama

completed The Love in the Clouds. Before watching this drama, I read a lot of reviews, comments, and remarks, so my expectations weren't really that great. But I was watching it for Ho Minghao, and honestly, it was great. This is my first fantasy-genre C-drama, and maybe there are better dramas in this genre, but it's not like I hated this drama. The visuals were epic. The styling, the looks, both the male and female leads—everything was amazing. The visuals were definitely one of the best parts for me. But I personally feel the last two episodes were VERY rushed. Because what do you mean we missed the great fight between Situ Ling, Ji Bozai, and Mingyi? 😭 I really wish we got to see Ji Bozai and Mingyi actually fighting the final round 🗡️. Like, what do you mean it was just a power-up and then suddenly everything was over? I wished we got to see them properly fight n celebrate their life a little more. The last two episodes basically felt like I was just turning pages. It felt like I was going through a summary rather than watching a proper epilogue. We never really got to see what happened after everything was restored and fairness and righteousness were brought back. The plot was good, but at times it did feel a little stagnant. However, the chemistry between Ho Minghao n Liyuxiao was amazing 🫠. I loved how they portrayed the characters and their relationship, the naughtiness n drama n man they're hot n after everything they went through, I really liked how things turned out for them. The plot itself wasn't anything GREAT. It was very simple—basically just one main thing—and could have been done much better, especially in terms of storyline and plot development. Tho I loved the concept of spirit animals as pets and lil things here n there. The pacing was nice, so it was okay for me. Also, I usually watch political or historical dramas, especially ones related to war. I don't really watch fantasy dramas much, so this was actually a nice change for me. I really liked the overall story and fantasy world. So overall, I liked it. Nothing extraordinary plot-wise, but the visuals, styling, chemistry, and overall experience made it enjoyable for me. 7/10 ✨
