thank you for the well thought-out and well written piece, it's really enjoyable! kudos!
i've actually just finished watching a film about a mother and daughter relationship, when i chanced upon the article both of you wrote.

re: "We are curious to find out if and where you found representation. Who is your personal favorite mother in this dramaland? "

my Mom is a complex character. i have never actually attempted to envisage a counterpart mother character in the dramaland to be my favorite.

Thanks. It's very hard work navigating longer historical dramas to work out which ones sound interesting...a lot…
you are welcome. i usually try to watch a film or drama to the finishing line. i don't drop out often on serials. usually if a series gets too draggy or boring, i just fast forward or skip some minutes forward (several times). unfortunately, i have a really low tolerance with soap opera style and the horror genre.

thank you for the share!

i am unaware of xuanhuan as a genre prior to this article. it's the same thing when i found out about the xianxia genre, i found out about the term xianxia after the Perfect World MMORPG became big. i do not know if xianxia and xuanhuan are technically recognized in the industry and among the professionals as standalone or unique genre classification, or if they are more recognized as sub-genre.

out of curiosity i made a search online, besides wuxia, xianxia, and xuanhuan, i found qihuan, kehuan, and dushi genres. i do not know if the latter three genres apply to novels only, or both novels and films and drama serials. i also do not know if these genre terminologies are specific only within China, or if there are Western and/or international equivalents.
