I honestly wasn’t sure if I’d like this going in, did I skip some scenes, yes, but I still ended up liking…
He didn't actually survive without the pearl. He said in the end when talking to the king in the market that the heavenly sovereign took pity on him and asked him if he would like to ascend or return to live among the mortals. He chose to come back to be with Yeo Ri, thats why he suddenly woke up 3 days later.
