Great start and great potential, but fell flat in the second half.
So, I have very mixed feelings about this show. If you were to ask me what rating I would’ve given it around episode 7 or so, it would’ve been a solid 9.0. But, sadly, as with many Thai shows, the writers somehow lost the skill to write in the second half of the show.
Story-wise, this show was original and promising. Dating with ulterior motives, annoyance-to-lovers, morally conflicted hitmen. The show also kept this great plot up in the first half, but lost its way in the second half. Tension and great dynamics turned into watered-down, repetitive fluff, and many plot lines were just abandoned after one or two mentions. Episode 11 actually felt like the finale, with episode 12 feeling more like a special episode than a conclusion. And the biggest topic/adversary throughout the show was dealt with like it was nothing, no consequences, no discussion after. It was sad to see such a great premise and story deteriorate.
I really have to give kudos to the pacing. The first few episodes were amazingly done. Good balance between plot and romance, and Wednesdays couldn’t come soon enough. The episodes felt short and fun, despite being up to an hour long.
This show was still severely enjoyable in some parts, though. Especially in the first half, we were blessed with amazing tension and plenty of good intimacy scenes. FadelStyle/JoongDunk truly, literally, stole the show for me. Their dynamic was fun to watch, their characters were interesting, they carried everything. Fadel had my heart the moment he stepped on the screen. KantBison/FirstKhaotung didn’t do it for me (to be honest, they never have), even though they were the first couple. They felt more like a more-or-less interesting accessory. I found myself waiting for their scenes to be over, so we could see more FadelStyle. Also, the action scenes in this show were embarrassingly bad, but what is to expect of GMMTV?
The OST of this show was exceptionally good. I enjoyed Joong’s the most (I felt Dunk’s and First’s was a bit weak), and all the music choices throughout this show were truly excellent. The audio quality/editing of this entire show truly diminished the viewing experience, though. Many scenes were too loud or too quiet, had weird background noise, and loud sounds blew the microphone many times, making it feel like it was recorded on a phone or something.
To summarize, the first part of this show is great and truly worth watching. I truly do not know what the writers were thinking when they shot themselves in the knee by just decreasing the quality and pacing in the second half.
