Haha, thank you. I only finished it last night and I just had so many thoughts about the series.
He does give the lookalike his hiking equipment, but I saw it as a way for him to apologize for using him as a crutch. Hao Ting also follows that up by telling his junior a joke that Xi Gu would have liked, which seemed like a last-ditch effort to see Xi Gu in the lookalike beyond just his appearance (which is why I took it as him using the boy as a crutch).
I didn't know about the suicide reading. That's interesting. I'll try and find more information, but there's fresh lines in my head that contradict that for me and I don't see it fitting.
And yep, Wayne is truly a great actor. I hope he gets another main role soon.
