Will I understand the story if I don't watch Princess Agents first?

The beginning is confusing because they put all the past story in episode 1. I would recommend to watch Princess Agents first to fully understand how they fall in love and what happened to Yan Xun and Zhuge Yue’s brotherly relationship. You will also understand more of the characters and how did the villains became like that.

In PA, they also showed how Zhuge Yue secretly protected Yan Xun. But of course, Yan Xun doesn’t know about this.

I saw trailer of this drama trailer way before I started binge watching cdramas like 1 year or 1 and half year…

Because Princess Agents is so popular in china and other countries. It’s one of the classics. Now that they made a sequel, some fans are not happy about changing the original cast. And the FL is around 16 when she started this film. Many are bothered with the age gap. Adding to that, she does not fit the role of a General/Warrior and lacks emotions. She looks like a highschool kid forced to wear an armour.

It’s impossible not to compare her to ZLY. ZLY brought the character into life and made Female Generals popular in cdramas.
