I just finished this drama. It's so beautiful. This drama was lacking the beautiful costumes and scenery of higher-budget dramas, but the acting, pacing, story, and basically everything else were amazing. I love that even the villains were fully fleshed out, not just senselessly cruel as they tend to be in other historical dramas. We spend almost as much time with them as we do with the protagonists, so you'll find yourself maybe sympathizing with them, and I love the cognitive dissonance that results from it. I also love the short episodes! That made everything feel so much better. I have a hard time sitting down for an hour, so having it broken up into smaller bits made it much more bearable. I wish all dramas would do this.
The character development in this show is incredible. I find that to be one of the strongest points in favor of sageuks, and the main reason why I tend to watch them more often. When you follow an entire lifetime through a drama, you become so attached to the characters. I loved Kuchon, Jinmu, Dollim, and Marshal Hae.
The ending wrapped up in a way that addresses all of the viewer's concerns, but it felt a little less emotionally engaging and interesting. It was as if the writer(s) wanted to cram everything into the last 2 episodes.
I was super addicted to this drama at the beginning but after a while it felt like the plotline was getting messy and convoluted. I couldn't really follow the logic of the webtoon world and how it overlaps with the real world. I really did love the originality though, because fantasy isn't all that common in kdramas. I also totally love LJS, and the romance was totally adorable.
