I was watching this every week as it was airing and it was one of the dramas i looked forward to the most in 2021. But I said it then & I'll say it again now, it could've ended at episode 8. The main conflict of the drama was Choi Woong & Yeon seo's unresolved feelings & the abrupt end of their relationship. After episode 8, it feels like the writer didn't know which way to go. She was finding ways to try and continue the conflict w/o actually addressing the big question Woong & the audience had: WHY did Yeonseo break up with him? and WHY is she suddenly back & okay with continuing the relationship? From what I remember, I know its mentioned and we do have an answer (her family's debt) but like where did she go those few years after the breakup? how did she resolve the debt? It just feels like these were things that the writer couldve used the remaining 8 episodes for instead of the random secret birth storyline w/ Woong. I get that he's like the MAIN character (moreso than Yeonseo, because there isnt much episodes focused on her POV & she doesn't really have a storyline thats independent Woong's) but it's like OUR beloved summer isnt it? lol The last 8 episodes felt like a bunch of filler until the main characters were in a relationship. The writer couldve addressed so many different things - flashbacks of Yeonseo's life after the breakup, the possible lack of trust Woong may have in Yeonseo after she broke his heart and went MIA, the difference in their upbringing & attitudes towards life (blasé Woong & strict, studious Yeonseo) and how that contributed to their initial breakup, Yeonseo's relationship w/ her grandma (it feels like granny was forgotten once the couple got together), Yeonseo's insecurities w/ regards to ppl leaving her & her inability to rely on others (why else was she constantly asking Woong what would happen if they breakup?? couldve at least TRIED to make the audience sympathise w/ her!) Woong & Ji woong's conflict w/ regards to Yeonseo. Like there were SO many things but instead we get a time skip & separation. It just doesn't make sense that hardly any of their issues are addressed but the relationship is now stronger than before.
I agree i agree, such a pain in the ass character. So inconsiderate and acts like people need to understand and…
Yea, episode 6 infuriated me even more! You can see she's starting to like Heetae as well & is wanting Myunghee out of the way so she doesn't feel guilty about what she's doing/done. Her & her brother are very self-involved, self-interested people. Poor Myunghee was caught between 2 siblings who had no empathy for her situation or circumstances and no real awareness of the world or what was going on around them. Soo ryun was even worse because she was part of the student protests, knew the type of man Hwang Ki Nam is, knew he was torturing students but still turned her back on her supposed "best friend" twice! She let her take the blame TWICE! Nothing more cowardly than letting other people take the fall for you! She wants to act brave by sneaking around, putting up posters and letters but then crying when she doesn't get her way or daddy's money can't protect her or give her what she wants. Honestly, such a despicable character. I'm glad Myunghee decided to not let her push her around anymore but she was still punished for it 'cause coward Sooryun can't ever tell the truth & accept responsibility.
I think one of the most annoying, selfish characters in this show is soo ryun. Such a horrible friend to Myunghee, & too self-interested to see the suffering of those around her. She doesnt seem to acknowledge how her rash actions cause trouble for others and only gets upset when it affects her reputation and social standing w/ the protestors. She acts w/o thinking then has to rely on others like her dad and Myunghee to bail her out. I hated her SO MUCH in episode 5! She was purposely ignoring Myunghees calls 'cause she was expecting to get engaged to Heetae but then comes to see her after getting rejected to pressure Myunghee to give up her love to save her & her money hungry family. & she asks this RIGHT after Myunghee tells her shes going to go out with him.
Yea i mean all that build up of Uimyeong/Nam Sangwon/Sangwook taking over Yisu's body only for it him to have…
i feel like the ending felt so weirdly rushed, the threat was never really felt to a large scale. and once again, they didnt really show him doing much with yisu's powers, just controlling the zombified stadium survivors to attach hyunsu and eunhyeok, who had no trouble warding them off. I wonder if they just didnt have the budget to animate some of the bigger, more threatening monsters.
There's no plot, LDH was brought back for no reason, the "boss fight" is a massive letdown, only completed it…
Yea i mean all that build up of Uimyeong/Nam Sangwon/Sangwook taking over Yisu's body only for it him to have it for like a few minutes and do nothing with it. Then he's back in sangwooks body who somehow survived the fire and despite dying over a year ago, still has control of his body??? like OG sangwoo was never a monster so hows does that make sense? And what was so scary about Uimyeong/Nam Sangwon/Sangwook? why was he the main bad guy by the end? Why was it such a threat for him to be in control of Yisu when he doesnt really do much with her powers. All the people in the stadium that had been turned into "monsters" (moreso zombies tbh) had already been turned by Yisu herself. he literally possessed little to no threat, especially because in the end, everyone goes through monsterization & then evolves into neohumans anyways and thats our apparent happy ending.
Totally agree. I binged watched it because I just wanted to see how theyll end it. S2 made me lose interest in the series. It felt like the writers just didnt know what to do with any of the characters once they left Green Home and they haphazardly introduced the new batch of characters after a time skip. But these new characters had little to nothing to do with the main characters from S1 so there was little to no emotional attachment to them. I mean even the writers didnt seem to care much for them since they never gave proper backstories and just expect you to piece things together. I skipped most of their parts because i knew it had no significance to the main plot. I dont even remember what happened in S2 because it just felt like a bunch of filler just to set up the mediocre ending for S3. I know the series doesnt follow the plot of the webtoon so i wonder if straying from that is what became an issue for the drama writers as they probably didnt rely on the source material for plot points. Eunhyeok's reunion with Eunyu was disappointing. The constant callbacks to S1 when Eunhyeok is reunited with Hyunsu also felt a bit cheap. Like, "REMEMBER THIS?! HE SAYS IT AGAIN!!!" It just felt like pandering.
The visual effects were also poorly made and you could tell they tried to pan away from certain scenes to reduce showing too much of it. Like hows the VFX worse this season?? at least the cartoonish monsters in S1 gave the show its own distinct style and was well made.
