love the show so far but not a fan of all the B roll AIGC and AI being used for some of the cgi effects....its obvious once u look at it, and it cheapens the experience for a sec

So... ep 7, after meeting her again, he's not the slightest bit caring or affected after he sees all her bruises?…
I think he's probably been able to deduce what's happened to her, and he's still helping/supporting her probably because what's most effective is to help her settle down so she doesn't end up in situations like that again 😭 plus, thinking about it logically if he asked the FL she'd probably avoid the question or brush it off...I think its a wise decision by the writer for the ML to provide help in other ways.

ok, someone please be really honest with me. how is this show? I want to watch because of the ML but I can’t…
so far the first 6 episodes r pretty rough but it gets better from 7 on wards (im on ep 9 as of typing). the ML is a jerk but he starts to grow a heart, and FL is smarter than she looks

you're right that it doesnt excuse it. I'm also talking about the friend, syaon, who has no respect for boundaries, the chauffeur driver who blatantly began car-chasing the ML *on the job*, and the final nail in the coffin was the FL herself removing the ML's mask while the ML was drunk and defenseless. It's multiple offences, outside of media. and so blatantly done and the Ml doesn't retaliate; either it's the script or he's written to be a pushover, or both.

either way its irritating; might wait till all the eps have aired to decide if i wanna spend time on this

watched the first 2 eps, and why does no one in this drama have any respect for privacy? TT i swear everyone is irritating me 😭😭

Originally the ML was 27, for the drama they made him 24, but it seems like they changed nothing else about him…
that progression makes more sense and is healthier! she needs to date other people and grow up normally. unfortunately it didn't go that way though 💀

One of the best and honest reviews I have seen yet. This is my first time watching a Cdrama and the concept of…
Originally the ML was 27, for the drama they made him 24, but it seems like they changed nothing else about him besides that 💀. Idk which 24 year old is this successful, and is this busy. He does seem more like he's pushing 30.

SZ has zero aspirations and turns down every guy that comes her way as if she's fated/saving herself for DJX. It's so gross and I really do think they should have hard time skipped to when she's in her final year of uni or has already entered the work force of real adults. She behaves the same as she did at 17, except now she knows how to tie her shoe laces, walk to a hospital without getting lost, or put on makeup.

It is definitely overrated. I have watched up to ep 13 and it is far below par with the top Chinese dramas. I…
The actress who played SZ as a 14 year old looks 8, and it was also especially jarring for me. Whenever she was on screen, I became apprehensive and extra vigilant of every little thing DJX did—because that is a child. In real life she's 12, but this just goes to show the script is dogwater. I think it's just one big mess.

I agree that the drama is overrated. I read the novel and did not really think it had a good story to narrate.…
Her acting as a 17 year old felt very strange to me. I don't think playing with stuffed animals is childish, and can be done at any age. It's that plus her other mannerisms and behaviour. On one hand, sure it's cute, but 17...as a senior in high school, what are your dreams? Goals? Motivation? What are you passionate about? What the hell do you do outside of constantly thinking about your gege and rolling secret messages into a star and putting them in a jar??

Both leads interactions are in a bubble and revolve around each other as if they're fated—they all lack development and the overall script is shallow. That's this shows biggest problem. Instead of being an enriching coming of age story about maturity, goals, and overcoming difficulties and growing up...it's 'fated lovers, but oh no aiyaa he's my gege'.

👏Beautifully written. No one can do a better job than you. Exactly! Story logic has flaw and there is no way…
I think it's a combination of the Zhao Lu Si army and the fact that there's been a real drought of c-dramas with good scripts this summer. But you're right, you really have to switch off your brainw atching. But then I looked at behind the scenes bloopers, and then I had to really ask myself what the hell am I watching? She's 17/19, did I act like this when I was 17 and a senior in high school? It's so bad. 😭😭

Btw, I was the one who suggested that they should have casted an older actor. Just because the actor is older,…
i mean....yeha i guess. im just honestly tired of seeing zhao lu si act with ppl like 8-10+ yrs older than her, lol. i was happy to see that her co-star was someone just 1 year younger than her, given her previous roles. but a dif actor would've done some wonders, depending on who it was, lol.

Yeah, i do agree that Wu Lei's acting could be better. It's not easy being a child actor and having to go through…
also this is a side note but i also get annoyed with those two guards he has around him. one serves as comedic relief, the other as a wing man, and both to just announce when stuff happen off stage so they don't actually have to show it. like, "general ling, we just finished surpressing the rebels and they're now imprisoned in the torture room" or smthn, and the audience just has to be like...i guess they surrpessed the rebels!

he does feel very comical

The male lead actor was very stiff. It's as if he's overacting (trying to be a tough soldier). The stiff acting…
Yeah, i do agree that Wu Lei's acting could be better. It's not easy being a child actor and having to go through a whole new rebrading—which is why i think his agency keeps picking up more mature roles for him. Every physical aspect of him so far is perfect for the role of General Ling, you can tell he's worked out, he has a handsome face, and they keep doing shots of his face at a 3/4 or front view. It's just his acting...he's in my generation so I'm really rooting for him to get better :( that and he's handsome, if he can finally get the acting piece of the puzzle down, he'd be complete.

and then general ling's storyline...i think the biggest mistake they made is not giving us just as much development for his backstory as we do for shaoshang's. they spend 5-ish episodes familiarizing us with her family circumstances, but General Ling's are just done in bits and pieces, and we're meant to feel sympathy for it, but combined with the overacting, it does feel kind of soap-opera-ish. I wish thy had done away with trying to keep things vague for the sake of mystery and intrigue, and properly devoted just as much time to his backstory and understanding him. that's supposed to come later, but compared to shao shang, both yuan shanjian and general ling feel like caricatures next to her.

its a pity, because i can see what they were trying to go for....here's to hoping wu lei can get better at acting in the future TT

To this day I haven't finished the series ?tbh i stopped right before the end because i just got so frustrated (also it was like 4am and I was on a drama marathon, oops-) but now that you've said it, I'll definitely give it a try and finish it.! Especially the special episodes. MewGulf is actually one of my favourite couples, but outside of TharnType :/ Maybe once I've collected myself, I'll sit down and do it lol. Thnx for commenting btw!

owo thanks for reading my review even! I always write these and cry a little inside because I know barely anyone might be seeing them. Glad you're still gonna give the show a try!
