Someone else pointed out that this version is starting to make TenTen look like a douchbag, and I'd say at a level…
Oh yes. The promise is an important part of his reasoning. However. I think I kind of knew it without having to be told about it (comes from watching all of those other versions - there was always a rational reason behind this trope). So that's why I actually didn't think of him as a douchebag, just.. huh. just silly :D I see where he is coming from so I can't think of him as a bad and mean dude.
However, if you would be a newbie to this story, then yes, this situation would not make any sense :D
I had time to digest everything in the meantime and finally realised why I was so annoyed by these episodes 17 and 18. As @vanillasalt mentioned - Naoki usually reacted to his jealousy somehow, always. And in this version he is not doing anything for such a long time. Grrh. I kept waiting for him to do something about this stupid situation he got everyone into. I guess they are trying to build dramatic tension with it.. Remind me how this trope went down in the other versions - cause I can't remember it exactly. I think Kotoko was more aware of the company and promise situation that he was in so that it was more bearable? I could be wrong.

I agree with lots of the points you make. Firstly, they spent too much time on Taliw&King this week - I really got annoyed by it. They just reused one motif over and over again for two episodes and we got nowhere. Except for King somehow imagining that Taliw likes him enough (khm -feels enough to be happy) to accept him. And it is sad that he does not see that she is not happy. Yes, he does make her smile and laugh but that's just a superficial, passing feeling for her. The sadness is more constant. We, as the viewers, see that. I get really frustrated that none of the guys see that. Which is actually the reason for TenTen to make the decision he made as well. He thinks that King makes her laugh - ergo makes her happy. That is not completely true and he hasn't realised that yet. This also comes from lack of communication between them, as you said.
I feel like in this version they don't really grasp what kind of people each of them are. In other versions it was pretty clear (I like this version for this change though..) and it made it easier for them to see things and react to that.
Uhh, anyways. After watching ep 16 with subs as well.. I don't really think his rejection was insulting. To me it sounded like he was trying to think of her - the way he said it was a bit assy.. but hey - he tried. (Maybe I've been brainwashed by all of the dramas I've watched in my life :D) And Taliw has actually never said that having him in his life already makes her happy. So there is actually no way for him to know that. Correct me if I'm wrong?
I was watching 17-18 without subs. Don't understand Thai much, but I get the gist anyways.. And there is too much interaction between King&Taliw which makes it impossible for TenTen and Taliw to get to an understanding at all.
It's a great show anyways, since it sparks so many interesting discussions. I enjoy reading everybody's insights!
I am starting to dislike this version. I don't like how Tenten (Naoki) disregards and treats both Namkang (Yuuko)…
Yes. TenTen was being an ass for the last couple of episodes. But let us look at this from his perspective as well. Taliw has always been saying how much she likes TenTen etc.. being nice to him.. he's sometimes being nice to her. And then he sees her being happy with King and spending time with him, letting him touch her. Wouldn't you be an ass about it? :D I feel like this is partly the reason .. and he's being a teenager about it. It really doesn't excuse his actions and making Taliw feel bad and making her cry. But is someone ever reasonable when it comes to feelings? Aah.. well. I'm not taking his side or anything. I hate it how things are at this point. Part of it is how he thinks this way is better for Taliw as well. But I also hate that Taliw is always running to King and kind of leads him on as well. King isn't helping as well. Because, you know. He wants her all to herself and well - this situation is great for him.
Anyways, TenTen should stop thinking and start acting :D
ugh Tenten is literally so dumb in episode 16. Why tf would he lead her on by making out, then turn right around…
lol. I know, right? Probably because he (or she) is not supposed to be any normal person :D Anyways. I've seen Taliw suffer lots by now. I want to see some TenTen suffering. Now! :D
Although I'm really liking this version too but because it's so different than the original there's kind of no…
You are quite right. The other versions stay very true to the plot and the characters and I loved each version actually. I think why this version works is that they've mixed up the plot, so they can mix up the characters as well.
I agree with you on TenTen, that a big part about Naoki was how he changed because she made him think of things in a different light, whereas with TenTen we don't actually see that. But isn't his behaviour also different towards Taliw? I feel it's not as bad and negative towards her, but rather playful and teasing? Not as cold?
I'm also wondering how they are going to handle that dynamic in the future. They've toned down the characters a lot and they are not as extreme as they are in the original and the other adaptions.. so I have no idea how this will work. I think they're going for the quiet dude, who doesn't talk about his feelings much, but lets see..

I've thought about this issue as well. I actually like it that we see his feelings and that Taliw can actually cook and is not so stupid. The thing is. I feel like only Taliw is blind to his feelings and everybody else knows by his reaction. Also, I think that he doesn't get his feelings either, that's why he is not saying anything. I remember from the other versions (I think I've seen them all) that he was confused himself and needed to figure this out. Also, he can be smart but has no emotional intelligence. So in that sense, it kind of makes sense. And I like it that because of all that they haven't made him look as bad as the other versions. Just my thoughts :)
is there going to be an evil second female lead in this?
For some reason they do yeah..I guess it's for the dramatic effect? :D I do think that this one is better than having to watch the evil second female lead though..
that kind of trauma has needed even tought I am so sad for ji won , Hae Sung couldn't save every patient ... But…
oh yeah that glint in his eyes... it's quite disgusting to watch...imo, the drama could be better without that director. we could actually deal with the real problems that occur in disasters, although, of course there would be jerks like him as well, but they use too much air time on this..
I finally started this drama and did a marathon watch up to episode 10. Maybe because of that Im not frustrated…
aah, yes! I don't have anything against them using the ghost to make Bong Sun a bit brighter and live her life but we see so very little of her and so much of the ghost living her life for her that we actually don't know what Bong Sun is thinking or feeling. That's the only thing I miss right now..The balance is kind of off for me. So I can't really enjoy watching them fall in love because I don't feel comfortable watching him falling in love with Bong Sun, who most of the time is not Bong Sun..you know..But I still enjoy watching it. Hoping to see more variety!
And what's up with that evil spirit in the brother-in-law? He's been suspicious the whole time. At first I was thinking why Im Joo Hwan took on this role but as I was watching it, it got clear to me.
