this is a pretty unusual cdrama. something about the cinematography reminds me of roger corman films. pretty sure the low rating is because viewers don't know what to make of it. Personally, I can't seem to stop watching it - its campy fun
I truly believe this drama deserves a higher rating. Personally, I chose not to judge the characters' actions too harshly—after all, I'm not deeply familiar with Chinese culture or historical values, so I can’t fairly say what’s realistic or not in that context. Instead, I focused on what I do know: the acting and the chemistry between the leads, which were both excellent.
I was never bored for a moment. This is a drama, after all—so yes, there's angst, and yes, the characters are flawed. But that’s part of what made it engaging. I’m just happy we got to see the leads reunite on screen and that the story wrapped up with a satisfying happy ending. It made the journey worthwhile.

also, the blurb above states they retreat into the world of heaven and earth...did something get lost in translation? do they mean heaven on earth or can someone who speaks chinese and english fluently explain this saying?
is the second part of this drama helmed by same writer director? has anyone read the novel it's based on? Curious if we can expect a happy ending or a tragic one....
I don't know if FL would do better in a different role, but the character she plays is not very likeable in my opinion - I hate wishy wash characters that play games - female or male. Maybe writers faut for writing it this way, or this actress doesn't know how to add nuance?
