This show is actually quite bad. I dont get the high rating. It's captivating in terms of plot, ML and FL are…
Agreed, it started out interesting and despite some aspects of the Rong household being a bit ridiculous to me I was enjoying it but later it started turning into a convoluted telenovela full of characters with questionable motivations. Also, where did the ML go? It felt a bit like they did not know what to do with him once he served as a tool for the FL to get rid of some unwanted suitors. Don’t even get me started on the final arc in the capital, that was rough.
I think it’s mostly the pacing and constant whisper-mode delivery which the director of this series apparently…
Not sure, honestly, but I would say it took at least 5 for me to think "Ok, I will try watching the whole thing". If I remember correctly, I was interested in the main trio pretty much by episode 02 or 03 and wanted to at least know more about them, so I was willing to invest in the investigation plot (while skipping some less important character monologues, but that is pretty standard for me when watching over workdays). I recall being intrigued by the demon coming to the "I want to kill you" guy and saying "Yes, please do" right at the start, so I wanted to know what his deal was. Finding the characters and their motivations/backstories interesting is usually the main draw for me, no matter what genre, and it did happen here. If they did not pique your interest at all, I am not sure how long it might take to get into the story - maybe 6 or even 10, if you are willing to spend that time.
In my view, another hurdle is that the first 15 eps (?) it resembles a detective story format and only later it kinda shifts in tone and dives deeper into the lore and backstories/main goals of each character. I enjoyed that part more than the earlier eps, so my verdict in short: A bit meh, but promising start and a slow-burn after that, but I am happy I stuck with it and will soon try rewatching in full to judge it more properly.

I am going to try again with that one since I did like this one in the end, but trust me, I get it. In this case I came to like the story and characters pretty early so I cared to see where it all leads (at least the main storyline). Not sure if the same happens with MJTY since I did not find the characters and storyline there gripping in the same way... but I am willing to give it one more chance XD Anyway, cdramas are way too long to force yourself to finish them if they do not grip you in let’s say 5-10 episodes, especially when there are so many others to choose from ;-)
I think it’s mostly the pacing and constant whisper-mode delivery which the director of this series apparently loves. I personally do not enjoy that so much, so I watched the whole thing on 1.2 speed (sometimes faster) and loved it! XD I did like the characters, the themes explored, the actors, the music and visuals, so the pacing was really the biggest issue for me. Maybe try dialing the speed up too, unless you disliked some of the aspects I mentioned - in that case it might just not be for you.
I had trouble getting into My Journey To You, so I guess this directing style/vision just is not for everybody and if the script/characters etc. does not save it for you, it is probably better to just skip the whole thing.
