Watching Secret Lover I find myself caught off guard and often saying "He is beautiful!"

The following is my personal opinion regarding the atrocities of war in general and of the Japanese in particular.

The Japanese of today are not the Japanese of their Great or Great-great grandparent's time. As a descendant of one who lost his entire family to the Nazi holocaust, I can see that the Germany of today is not the Germany of yesterday. While remaining vigilant to world-wide trends of hatred and persecution of minorities of any type, I do not hold children to blame for the sins of their fathers.

A young Japanese person is not responsible for and has no need to apologize for the actions of their ancestors. The same applies to young Chinese and Koreans who are forced to apologize for their ancestors' collaboration.

What we have not allowed the Japanese to do is to see and accept the actions of their ancestors so that they as a people can recognize and prevent the same mindset from appearing in their culture. What we are not doing today is holding all cultures, nations, and governments responsible for their own ongoing institutionalized hatred, prejudice, and atrocities. Recognize the past but act in the present.

Pretty much disagree with the cons.

I have watched this multiple times and will watch it again and again. I like the relationships between the lead characters and the supporting characters. I found them realistic. Would love to see a story showing the brother's development sometime.
