Rewatched this again here recently, and gotta' say this is my favorite of the Reply series. While I do agree that 1988 and 1994 hit hard on their own that would make them more enjoyable to watch, 1997 is the one that hits home for me on a different level. Totally biased towards it because the year, references, atmosphere... was like a big slap of nostalgia and I loved it. When I say fan-girling was serious business in the 90s, believe me. It was lol.
Flashbacks usually annoy me with dramas (like when they're used as time fillers to move a story along while forcing things to just "make sense" because they showed something from the past), but given how they're pretty essential to the plot here, I enjoyed the trip they took me on.
It's definitely got its issues, do not get me wrong. There's some things going on here that had me side-eyeing the story like "wait, what? that's ... not okay" lol, but I love really loved the cast. Definitely would recommend it to anyone thinking of watching it -- not just this one, but the Reply series as a whole. It's got a lil' something for everyone.
Cute drama, has it's flaws no doubt, so don't expect anything major with writing or story-telling. I found it to be a good filler after watching a drama that had an end that left me hollow and heartbroken, so I recommend this to anyone looking for a humorous "pick me up" rom-com in those moments if they haven't seen it yet.
You'll probably be left feeling like the two main leads were a bit forced (hint: they totally were lol). However, the two older brothers? Worth sticking around to see them at the very least. I really enjoyed their side stories and diverse lifestyles.
Fair bit of warning, though: the toilet humor is like x20 with this drama. I normally don't mind it all in dramas as there were a few instances it was funny, but the first few episodes were constant with it. So much so, it became predictable with the bubble-guts sound effect right on cue and started to become the "go-to" act for funny moments. So, just ... keep that in mind lol. Like I said, good for the humor, nothing major with romance or story-telling, though. Just a light-hearted time filler.
I want to finish it but it's so painful to watch, so depressing. As for the lead characters romance, it's like…
lol I got caught up in the interactions between the leads and finished this drama thinking they were fresh out of high school. Totally forgot.
It's just how they behave with one another, although I will give them credit on the kissing scenes. Definitely some decent ones there to reel me back and remind me they are full-fledged grown adults, but only in those moments. Everything else is really awkward. I guess it *kind of* fits the characters, though, as they are a bit introverted and awkward themselves...but yeah, just odd for 25+ year olds to be like that all the time.
Agree! they're all being salty cus dalmi didn't ended up with HJP~ obviously from the very first episode HJP becomes…
It's not so much because people are "salty" because Dal-mi didn't end up with Ji-pyeong. If anything, I see lots of comments where people aren't even bothered by the romantic interests and their pairing in the end. DoDal was always going to be endgame.
The issue is the writing of it all -- how so many things were made to appear so significant and important to only be forgotten about.
So much focus at the start of this drama put the sisters, their parents, the separation and having that family bond wither over time, bringing Ji-pyeong into the picture with the letters and being Dal-mi's rock to get her through a hard time with her father, reuniting with her sister yet being on shaky terms, working in an industry together with her at a company (that was inspired by their father of all people) ..... to all become an afterthought once Do-san enters the picture. Like once he enters, the focus on In-jae and Dal-mi dwindles more and more ... which was a real bummer, because Kang Hanna did so well with this role. Just wish we saw more of her once that romance started considering her important role to the FL.
It's okay to be critical of a drama. Doesn't mean it's unnecessary hate when most folks are just a bit confused and lost as to what the writer's intention was here with bringing all this stuff up as a big focus to just drop it cause the FL catches some feelings.....because this drama really does start off strong. Great first half.
Edit: Hyun Bin ... my goodness, how I love you so. Started this drama solely for him and have grown to love every single character involved. This has been the first drama in a long while I've followed as its airing, and I am just so sad that it's coming to an end. My heart can't take it, I've enjoyed this one so much!
I hate myself for starting this drama, but I can't put it down because then I'd be even more mad at myself since I'm already 30 episodes in. I've been watching this in between others as a filler to keep myself occupied, but I've found myself growing fond of the characters and becoming pretty immersed in the story wondering what is going to happen next. Starts out really strong and has continuously kept me hooked.
However, the one thing that keeps bugging me: the lighting. First few episodes were shot really well, depicting what had happened in the past. Then when we get to present day in the drama, the lighting is so bright and it looks like a drama that was shot in the early 2000s. At first I thought it was them trying to show a difference in time, but now I am not so sure because I will see present day with both. Some parts look high budget, others not so much. It's really confusing, but I am trying not to let that ruin the way I view it as a whole. I'm going to see this through to its end lol.
The trailer looks complicated and a bit uninteresting, to be honest, except for the parts where the two of them…
The story is much easier to follow than what the trailer lets on, if I am to be honest.
It's not the typical teenage-styled drama that is really cute and bubbly when it comes to two leads falling in love, but it also doesn't have super serious moments that require your undivided attention or else you will miss key details. It's right in the middle with its moments and has enough of an interesting story there to keep your attention.
I'd encourage you to give it a go if you're drawn to it for the two leads, though. That alone was enough to fuel me to watch it. They have really great chemistry during their scenes together that made them seem more believable than most (ie: the kiss scenes). It's the type of drama that had me feeling good inside after it ended, glad I gave it a chance.
I'm about 10 episodes in and have picked this up several times over the past year and a half and always put it back down because another drama would catch my attention (sorry to those that really enjoy this ... I am easy to distract). However, I really enjoy the two leads. It doesn't have a super deep story or anything that will keep you engaged and glued, but there's enough there to pique your interest. A great drama to watch as a filler for those in-between moments when you're needing something quick and refreshing.
It's definitely more on the "teenage drama" side, but there's moments that even someone my age could appreciate. One thing I despise the most that always has me cringing: the way they dressed the female lead. TWO hoodies and a jacket with everything 3 sizes too large? Aw, come on... I know it's part of her character, but still. She's amazingly beautiful regardless, though. At this point, I am just being extremely nit-picky with the attire because I'm not finding much else to really annoy me. The acting is subpar, but I'm not expecting Oscar-levels out here. It's a cute little drama. It's not awful, but it's not the greatest romcom ever, either. It's just something nice to watch (for me, I'm binging this on a rainy day, so it's been a great "picker upper" to lighten the mood).
The story so far is what you'd expect from these types of dramas: simple, cute, funny, moments of cringe, misunderstandings that could've easily been solved with communication, awkward staring, pinch of jealousy, fun .... it's got it all. A great recipe for a nice "feel good" drama that will bring a few smiles your way for those times when you may need it the most.
I'm about halfway through this drama and despise how it's broken up into 30min episodes. I feel it would have fared better if 20 episodes/1hr each (I'll take it a step further and say it would've done even better at 16 episodes, cutting out some of the useless filler added for story telling). Most people see 40 episodes and they'll put it on the back-burner to never watch it, thinking it will take them weeks to get through everything or they believe it won't be able to keep their attention long enough. The 30mins go by quick witch each episode, though, and there's enough of a story there to keep one engaged if they like historical dramas.
I didn't initially plan to watch this drama, in all honesty. Some of the forums I'm on didn't really talk about it much and it's not one I see recommended often, but wanted to look into L's other work and decided to give this one a try. Kinda' glad I did, because I like it so far. I really dig the political aspects of historical dramas that has romance strewn throughout it, so this one is right up my alley despite some of the obvious plot holes I am already seeing.
However, I feel it will end happy given how the story has gone so far despite all the twists and turns. Too much focus is put on romance aspect of the drama to be otherwise. I dig a lot of characters and the acting is fairly well for what it is, so I can't complain too much. I've definitely seen worse.
Even though I am only halfway through, I would recommend this to those wanting a drama to watch over time -- something slow-paced with a decent enough story to keep you engaged that you can watch over the course of a week or two in between other dramas. Don't expect super steamy make-out scenes or over the top fights with extreme suspense and thrills, but it has enough going for it that makes it "just right". Don't go into with extremely high expectations and you won't be disappointed ... as I said, I'm halfway through and went into it thinking it would be the worst given how the reviews were, but honestly? It's not been too bad. I've enjoyed it for what it is so far.
Park Seo Joon ... why are you so adorable? In all seriousness, the two leads for this drama were matched perfectly. They chose the right cast for WWWSK -- everyone fit their part so well!
Two words for this drama, though: fashion icon.
Park Min Young knocked every outfit she wore out of the ballpark, and hunny she knew it! She wore each ensemble extremely well -- so much so that I found myself looking for shops that sold the exact outfits (or something extremely similar) to wear to work. Each scene was such a joy just for her outfits alone.
Now, as for the story? It was cute. Definitely worth watching through to the very end if you're into romcoms with a lot of (steamy) feel good moments. The chemistry the two leads had on screen made it seem real, like they were really two people working in an office realizing their love for one another and having to hide it from everyone at the work place.
There are some bits that will drag out and some episodes that feel like fillers, but I personally don't think it takes away from the overall story in general. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good drama that will have you feeling whole afterwards. The story gets told and we are given the happy ending between the two leads, but it's mostly worth watching for all those little moments in between.
I've enjoyed watching Kim Young Kwang since seeing him in the movie Hot Young Bloods and I definitely fell for him in this drama, but shew .. there's only so many cliches I can take.
Facial blindness is definitely a thing, make no mistake, but the way it's been implemented in a few of the dramas so far with how the person only begins to recognize the face of their lover after treating them poorly is starting to get annoying. It's not as bad as the amnesia trope, but we're getting close, and this one really pushes it hard. At least with a drama like My Holo Love, the way it was implemented made sense and had me thinking "Ah, okay. I can see that." but this one? Just felt unnecessary despite it being a major part of the plot.
The leads of this drama had cute chemistry, though. The actors did really well on screen and definitely displayed a relationship that seemed believable. However, and I may be in the minority on this, but I despised Jung Gal Hee. Her constant moping, hiding, lying (the way she drug out that lie annoys me still to this day), making ridiculously poor decisions knowing the consequences, tip-toeing around topics, always being so down on herself, and her overall frumpy appearance really hindered my ability to like her. Jin Ki Joo is such a beautiful person and I almost didn't recognizer her in this drama at first, but I am so sorry to her and her fans, but I just didn't like her character in this one. She was relatable, but not ... and I know that doesn't make sense, but it is what it is.
Round of applause for Kim Jae Kyung, Miss Verrrrrrrronica Park. Loved her character and acting in this drama. Such a joy to watch on screen! Towards the end, I found myself rooting for her and her happiness over the two main leads lol. I am so happy she got the amount of screen time that she did and that the writers wanted to include her story and give her a happy ending, as well. Made it worth watching to the end.
If you're looking for a cute bubbly romance drama with some funny feel good moments, then check into this one. It's not the best, though, so don't say I didn't warn you. There WILL be moments you will be annoyed and angry with, but all in all, it's a good drama to watch to get over another drama that has left a gaping hole in your heart.
In my head, this is the continuation of these two's relationship from Goblin and no one can convince me otherwise. They knew what they were doing when they cast them, lol.
Yoo In Na's character isn't for everyone, though. I adore her as an actress, but her character definitely got on my nerves and played into every trope that made so many moments unbearable. However, because of this drama, I found myself becoming very fond of Lee Dong Wook and his acting. I wasn't big on him in Goblin (or most of the male leads in that drama ... sorry!), but I really enjoyed seeing him in this one.
This one is no doubt a "feel good" type of drama that has a lot of heart-warming moments. If romance is what you're going for, give this one a go. It's a good one to sit and binge on if you're looking for two leads that become hopelessly in love that will bring about a happy ending.
Ji Chang Wook -- need I say more? I'm being serious. I could watch that guy breathe all day.
If that's not enough, well .. as for this drama, it's well worth a watch for the story that unfolds. Clear a night (or a couple of nights) to really take it in and appreciate it for what it is: a suspenseful romance that will take you on an emotional roller-coaster. It takes a rather unique approach to a story that doesn't exactly use the common tropes we find in the majority of dramas. Yes, there's cliche moments, but I didn't find this drama to be as predictable as most.
I personally think this is one of those dramas that isn't talked about enough or put on that many "Top X" lists despite its lovely cast. Maybe because it takes a serious topic and throws love into the mix, making it not as cute and bubbly as most dramas that are highly rated. It's not a constant "feel good" type of drama as there's a good number of bits that will have you feeling down, finding the leads a bit hopeless....which makes for those moments where happiness comes into play much more enjoyable, though.
This isn't your typical romcom or thriller type of drama. There's a genuine story there that takes time to unfold, which can be a drag if you find yourself not hooked right off the bat. I wasn't big on Eun Bong Hee at first. She was one of those characters at the start of the drama I found myself asking "Really? We're going with this type of character?" but you know what? I grew to love her. By the end of the drama, I was rooting for her happiness and relationship.
I recommend it to those looking for a story that unfolds at a slower pace. If you want to fill the void of another drama, this is a good one to help you get over that hump.
The story is good -- takes a concept that isn't anything new or groundbreaking, but at least presents it in an engaging way. Romance, some heartache, tragedy, and a pinch of humor here and there... it's one of those dramas I would recommend watching over the course of a few days as opposed to binging it in one (like I did). There's a lot of good moments to take in that deserves to be savored and thought about -- many I had to go back and rewatch as I had forgot about a few of them since I rushed through it.
I mostly watched it for LSJ when it first aired, but ended up discovering how much I adored Jung Hae In (seriously, highly suggest checking out his other dramas, especially more recent ones ... that smile!). However, I found myself unable to root for the female lead. She was someone I couldn't pair with either of them, and that's not Bae Suzy's fault. It's just how the writers made her be in this drama that had me finding her hard to relate to or cheer for as it went on... I'm sure others would greatly disagree and would find the characters' relationships to be adorable in that kdrama way, but I, unfortunately, just am not one of them.
The drama itself is rewatchable, though. It's not terrible in comparison to some of the other dramas out there and the cinematography was lovely, but it's not the best, either. It's not even the best in terms of LSJ's work, but it's definitely worth a watch if you really enjoy some sappy romance and have a guilty pleasure for those cliche love scenes.
Let me preface this by saying that YES, this drama is 100% overrated. Pretending otherwise at this point is like insisting water isn't wet. It's been put on every "Top X" list from here to moon and back ten times over and is always one of the first dramas that introduces people to Kdramas as a whole -- the modern Boys Over Flowers in that sense.
HOWEVER, that does not take away from the fact that it's such a lovely little drama filled with so many cute moments that will make your heart burst at the seams regardless your age. Could the two MLs get any cuter? Round of applause for Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Shik's acting in this drama. The chemistry between their characters in this drama was such a joy to watch.
I really enjoyed the concept of it in general, although there were some seriously super cheesy moments that made me cringe due to how "out there" it was. Like the musical sound effect when something bad happened and her "super jump" where she seemed to float onto a storage container? Yikes. Most could be blamed on crappy CGI effects and bad timing, I suppose, but overall the drama was still good on its own for the story and the characters' relationships. Even the secondary characters were pretty good and just as interesting to watch. One thing I wished they wouldn't have done was the ending. It should have stopped prior to wedding bells, but that's just me.
It's not a drama that I would consider the best ever, but it *is* one that I would definitely recommend to those who are maybe new to kdramas that is wanting something light, cute, and humorous with a but of a thrill thrown into the mix. It's a "feel good" drama ... it leaves you feeling good about everything once it ends and you are satisfied with where the characters are once the credits roll. Great one to kick back and binge.
Went into this expecting it to be like the manhwa, but got something completely different. So, keep that in mind if you were intrigued by this drama for that. Drawing comparisons between the two at this point is useless as the drama seems to carve its own path. Too many are stuck doing that and its clouding their judgement as a whole.
Despite it not being what I anticipated, was I sorely disappointed? Nah', I still ended up enjoying it although I kept crying like a baby during certain scenes.
First 4-5 episodes were actually pretty good. A lot of moments that were genuinely funny and had me really liking the odd relationship between the two main leads. Even though a lot of people find the ML to be a bit ridiculous and mean (which I would agree if this were your typical drama not centered around a fantasy setting), but given the circumstances ... he's supposed to be like that. It's literally the part of the plot -- he treats her that way purposely because he believes her to be his servant. Only after time he begins to form a bond with her which then develops into love.
As the story unfolds, we learn why he is the way he is, and we see the two leads realizing the feelings they have for one another ... and let me tell you. It was C U T E. The things they do together just makes my heart melt thinking about it.
Can we also throw some appreciation for the OST? "Glass Bridge" by Savina & Drones is such a beautiful song that fit so many moments in this drama so well, whether it was a gushing romantic scene or a gut-wrenching sad one. One of the few songs I've heard in dramas that I didn't mind hearing again and again...
All in all, I would recommend this drama for those looking to watch something with a lot of romance, some humor, and a pinch of sadness. It's something good to watch over a weekend. Go into it with an open mind, though -- think of it as its own story not based on anything. It may not be the type of drama you can re-watch many times over, but I don't think it's as bad as most people insist it is. There's worse out there.
It's not great, but it's not bad, either. It's just alright. A good drama to watch over the weekend if you're looking for something cute and fluffy with a little bit of heartache here and there. It can be super cheesy at times, but cheesy romance scenes are my guilty pleasure, soooo....
I admit, I wasn't big on the FL. Nothing to do with Go Sung Hee as an actress/person in general, but it's *how* her character was wrote that annoyed me. There were so many moments throughout 12 episodes that I found myself talking to the screen and asking out loud, "WHY are you doing that? WHAT is wrong with you?!" Same with the ML, but not quiet as much. They both make some rather questionable decisions. Throw an AI into the mix and you have yourself a drama.
Facial blindness? Check. Traumatic incident from their childhood that caused said facial blindess? Check. Childhood friends? Check. Childhood friends that later reconnect and begin to fall in love after X amount of years? Check. One-sided love? Check. One-sided love that can only be reciprocated when the other side has been hurt enough? Check.
It's all there, and despite that ... I still stuck it through and found myself satisfied with the ending. Is it a drama I would rewatch? Ah, probably not, to be quiet honest. If you're looking for something to watch as a filler for those "in between" moments when you're waiting for a new release, then I'd say definitely give this one a try if you're just wanting some romance.
Flashbacks usually annoy me with dramas (like when they're used as time fillers to move a story along while forcing things to just "make sense" because they showed something from the past), but given how they're pretty essential to the plot here, I enjoyed the trip they took me on.

Definitely would recommend it to anyone thinking of watching it -- not just this one, but the Reply series as a whole. It's got a lil' something for everyone.
