Not a bad drama but lots of ups and downs, similar to a lot of dramas of that time, and looots of cheating involved, which got on my nerves at some point.
Such a great drama! The cast, the story and the ost are all amazing! It is a great coming-of-age story in which Mika, the main character, evolves and matures throughout the drama.
unfortunately I don't know how to sub, and I also don't have the confidence yet to be able to sub it. Actually, a lot of parts were pretty hard to understand based on the level of Japanese that I have. It has a lof of deep philosophical dialogues. Maybe once I get better hahaha. Thanks tho!
I'm glad I didn't follow the comments and still watched, cause this drama is a gem! First of all, one should keep in mind the time it came out in, so the rich man, poor woman trope was still fairly a new thing, I'm assuming. Second of all, did y'all read the title? This will change the way I look at the story, I'm sure! Because before being a love story, it is first a story about siblings, and more specifically, an older brother caring for his little sister. I found the story really touching, as from the beginning to the end they supported each other. The same goes for Takagi and his sister. It was only used in one of the episodes, but I feel like "imouto" by Kaguyahime really embodies well what this drama really is about. It also has this whole conflict of family and traditions clashing with the modern city, with her chasing her dreams when moving to Tokyo.
from MDL's description above....new government program under the so-called "NEET protection law". This…
NEET stands for "no employment, education, or training". You can look it up, but in Japan, after university, you have to find a job, which is really hard and sometimes so hard that some just give up and end up doing "nothing" with their life.
He was Ai’s ex boyfriend, the one that wanted to run from her but kept going back to find her lol that’s him.
Don't worry! Thank you for the reply though, I just checked and yeah it's totally not him. Just before, I was watching an interview of his recent drama (nanyobi ni umaretano) and he was very awkward at speaking publicly and said he was not really used to it; so I was curious to see how his performance was in Lipstick since I didn't quite remember it. I also wonder why he was added in the cast hahaha
The comments here made me really reluctant to watch it. I don't understand? I found it was really great. I loved it! The way it was written follows a lot the style of other dramas of the time which I really like! Not only happy or good things were happening which I guess made it seem like a bad story for some? I don't know. But it was realistic and anyways, it wasn't that bad at all lmao. Whenever there was anything happening it was solved right after anyways so there was no boring moment. It's a story about coming of age and growth. The osts were all so good and I found myself learning the 'poem' being said at the beginning of every episode. Definitely a favorite!! And of course, amazing story about friendship of still too immature teenagers trying to find themselves and reach a more mature stage towards the end. I didn't find it inconsistent either but I guess that's just different opinions! For anyone that was thinking of watching, please do ! The acting is amazing!! It was great having kinki kids play together again ahaha!
thank you! the links seem to be down though. In the meantime I was actually able to find it on youtube! You can find it by typing out the title in Japanese, the whole drama is in only 1 video. I'll do with it !
I see many people not understanding the end and saying it was sudden, but I don't think so. In a lot of scenes following him getting beaten up, he's hurt and shows sequels of being hit on the head, so his death was predictable, I must say. Especially in the end, he loses control of his hand at work and his legs on the way. Even on the train, the tangerine fell off, and he had difficulty talking. I'm guessing he got a concussion or something similar. Him not getting a check up despite being told multiple times following his injury was a foreshadowing for the viewers.
For the writer to decide to have him dead was a way to make this story a real tragedy, which was too much. This was not needed but oh well. I can understand why, in a way. A nig theme of the story is being connected to the past vs. forgetting it and going on with life. How would Minako live from now on, still clenched to the past, with her new bio father and step bro with whom she shares a reciprocal doomed love? This would've been a tragedy on its own don't you think so?
As a side comment what is with KimuTaku and having to play chharacters with doomed love with his own siblings lmao. First, I watched Sora Kara Furu Ichioku no Hoshi, then it was Karei Naru Ichizoku, and now this one.
90s drama really liked to write tragedies. A lot of hints of the big Greek tragedies and I'm totally here for it, don't get me wrong. There's something appealing to all this tragedy and heavily psychological which I lovee!
Thanks tho!
