Totally. I'm so invested in the drama. Not only is the viewing experience amplified multi-folds, our judgement of the characters are also not tarnished between the drama adaptation and the novel. For example, poor Yan Lin's character has taken a beating, being labelled as a rapist based on commentators here with other sources. But in the drama up to the latest ep, I find him a rather decent character. I have to say I like the drama version of this character; not that I wanted Ning 'Er to be with him romantically.

I didn't read the novel. So far, just based on the drama, we don't know if XW liked her in the first life. He probably did, but she didn't like him the way she like ZZ.

Not sure in what aspect you need explaining about ZZ and XW. So I'll respond base on what I think you're asking about. She has always been terrified of XW knowing that he could end her life, so everytime she meets him during her second life in the beginning, she always tries to either avoid him or have her guards up. With ZZ, she likes him since the 1st life, so with the 2nd life, she also has a soft spot upon seeing him. This is up to the latest episode.

Yan Lin is a childhood friend to her. Their relationship is strong but not in a man-woman way to her. She will do everything to protect him in the new life. He’s a nice fellow, but she needs someone to tame her, not to give in to her all the time.

This is why we are hooked. We are all waiting for XW to work his magic and somehow turn Ning Er from being terrified and wary to loving him. You’d know it would be something big for the change of heart so completely. XW is very layered and you only see what he lets you see of him.

Yes, I totally noticed this statement. If not about the current him, it’s alluding to the near future him and how he probably would not reveal to her that easily how he has fallen. I sense he’s not working 100% for Lord JingNan and he could be another threat to XW’s love ones.
