I have to say he is well cast for this role. Had it been someone else, I don't think this character would have carried as much weight and impact as a villain who could draw sympathy from viewers due to an awful childhood that wasn't in his control.

Totally make sense in that you know the character more than what had been presented to viewers in just the drama. I'm sure in the novel, LZS is super complex and multi-layered given his sad background and childhood ordeal which shaped him into how he is as seen in the drama.

If the Zhou family ends up truly ruling the court, especially in the hand of someone capable, I feel this is the best ending, because Fan Yu doesn't deserve to be Emperor. If Fan Yu were to be the Emperor, it basically means LZS is the grand winner because Fan Yu is his puppet.

Fan Xuan becoming the Emperor was largely credited to Zhou Gaolang as they fought fought many battles together and made plans TOGETHER to give the people a better world. So I would even go as far as saying HALF the dynasty should be Zhou's; thus it's fair for any Zhou's sons to rule as long as they are capable individuals, like Zhou Ye.

If LZS wasn't played by Liu Xue Yi, would LZS sympathizers still root for him and condone his evil and insidious doings?

I don't think Gaolang disliked Zhou Ye in the beginning because he was a concubine's son. I believe it was because he felt Zhou Ye didn't have the desirable traits to be a top general; that his son is too soft such that he couldn't/wouldn't kill innocent people which sometimes is necessary during wartime.

I just think there's more to the whole story as to why LZS thought Mr. Gu's was his dad. He might have been misled by his mom. Just as Jiang He might also was misled by LZS's mom that the child's dad was someone else's. No clue...gotta watch to find out.

I'm not sure Jiang He knows. Maybe he suspected, but so far there's no indication in the drama that he knows.

I agree it would be a messy hand-over. Fan Yu basically would have to die so that no one can use him to lay claim to the throne, and he himself also won't have the chance to do so. Then it would be easier for someone else other than Fan's lineage to take over.

Major foreshadowing when Jiang He told the Emperor that he killed the previous dynasty's crown prince because he didn't deserve to be the emperor since he was an unpleasant person who couldn't stand others who were better, smarter, wiser than him, and had to resort to framing others to rid the competition. This totally described traits of the CURRENT crown prince as well. I hope the Emperor is wise to take this into consideration when crowning the next ruler. The emperor already gave his general/bestie permission to take matter into his own hands should the crown prince failed to be a decent emperor. Honestly, I do like Fan Xuan. He's doing a pretty decent job and to the best of his ability.
