Interesting quotations from Frankenstein. Great misery and suffering are what motivate people to commit crimes and harm other beings. In the case of psychopaths I'm not really sure if it's the same since I think they enjoy it, but still in the very end whether it's the underline issue or the outcome there is always pain and suffering of that person (the murderer). I'm not familiar with the "Charismatic Killers" series but I think the article could've been more detailed or maybe it was my expectation caused by the quotes. Anyways still very interesting, thank you!
Well I have love/hate feelings for this drama. So many beautiful scenes and moments between leads that were so adorable and we could see how their love grows stronger every episode. I personally felt that way because I find slow and dark stories my cup of tea. Some people may have not seen that because I bet they were busy looking forward to scenes with Lee Soo Hyuk. I gotta say he awoke the love in me for vampires because he is the sexiest vampire i've ever seen and his acting, every word or movement defined his character as the King of darkness. Yes, he did.
On the other hand, this could've ended in 15 episodes because there's a point when one feels that is too much blablabla and no action like they were looking for some ideas of how to continue it so they had to extend. I don't know I'm not used to Historical dramas where there is many conversations and slow development, but I see everyone complaining about it. The plot could've been better, the encounter between Jo Yang and Gwi could've been the pre-climax scene if there is such thing. It should've been big!
Excellent article. In my country we see deaths by domestic violence every week, deaths. You could say " well in my country too" , but since I live in a very small island it is something alarming. Even though here women are leaders and it is considered weird to be (as a woman) shy and submissive, the machismo is still a very strong issue, mostly in the working class.
When I see all that you mentioned in the article for me it's really obvious and it bothers me because for example in my country if you see someone grabbing the wrist of another person there is for sure another third person ready to call the police. It's not normal and it's considered abuse, just for that simple action.
Oh also this made me think of telenovelas, which are very popular here, and they always portray strong and at the same time sensitive woman but lately what we are getting is a lot of dominant bad-to-the-bone female leads. It's like the total opposite, and even though I totally hate them I gotta admit violence (verbal or physical) between leads does not happen.
I confess I have not seen any of those Kdramas with good boys from the start, in fact I didn't even know they existed! As for the Jdramas I've seen a few but I still miss many of those you mentioned. Many Jdramas are so underrated and some of them are, as you say, hidden gems. I think this is mostly because Japan is so jealous with their music, TV shows and movies and they like to ban everything they can from us; which results into hard to find dramas or uploaded in low quality.
I gave this 9.5 because they didn't try hard enough to visually represent the 90's. I'm talking about the stuff used, the hairs and fashion were not 90 style. Other than that this drama is perfect, i don't know it's one of those dramas that feels like a warm cup of coffee. One of those dramas you just can't help but to love all the characters and to feel part of their lives.
Is Near is portrayed as a girl or they simply couldn't find a male actor to play the role?! Stop CHANGING the…
You can express your point without trying to offend the other person. It is a big deal whether you change the character's gender or not, it changes in many ways and some people hate it others don't really mind. As I said I don't care if the actress is a woman unless they change Near's gender. Now his gender is not really specified through the anime but still we fans perceived him as a male. Anyways why would they change his gender, it's so unnecessary.
I don't know about you guys but I've been waiting so many eps for Jo yang and Gwi to meet. It's like I want to see the chemistry between them and I not-so-secretly want him to bite her. Am I alone in this? Am I the only one super excited about it? O_O

Ehh...it is a big deal. Men are women are quite different in many ways. If a character was originally male it was for a reason. I haven't seen the drama but if it's a girl acting like a boy then it doesn't matter but if they changed Near's gender well that is something to be mad about.
Such a great drama. The start is a little weak though, but it gets SO much better. I was afraid that it was going to be all flashbacks like the last dramas I've seen but surprisingly enough they didn't rely on them that much; the story was developed mainly on the present. I'll never forget the awkwardness and tension at those dining scenes! Also, there was something very peculiar on this drama, it was a detail that I personally loved. When they had conversations sometimes they finished with a smile. It may seem silly but you don't get to see this on many dramas or movies. Smiling as you talk to each other is so natural whether is sincerely or not. I really appreciated that touch.
Love this many times, it was better than I expected. The female lead is very different from the usual japanese woman in dramas. More skinship that I expected. And I gotta say I've never considered Kimura Takuya to be a handsome man, but there were some shots of his then flawless face that made me realize how ridiculously good looking he was.
Good leads but what's with the story writing? So boring! The investigation team are all straw figures, why do…
Yes I made my point also with the perception that the investigators are no good and they won't even try which doesn't make the male lead look good when it comes to the explaining. I don't know if i'm explaining this very well. We, the spectators, depend much on the information the investigative team can give us in order for the crime to make sense to us. That doesn't happen here and I get lost very quickly. I don't know I'm kind of a slow thinker and i'm sure i'm overthinking this but as a huge detective-mystery fan I really can't help it.

I think you and I have the same thoughts. The investigative part of the drama is so weak it almost hurts when the male lead talks about his analysis of the case. I don't know if I should continue... :/
