The students don’t know. Master didn’t tell them, he is only posing as the Penglai Heavenly Envoy who in actuality is someone else. They showed the real heavenly envoy and I think Master put him to sleep. I think only Wei Zhi, Dean, and Demon Lord knows.

No, this version has Hu Yi Tian who was the male lead in A Love So Beautiful, also on Netflix. I don’t know why they’re making two different adaptations of the same novel, especially since the guy playing Sheng Huai Nan in the 2019 drama did a good job, better than I’d expect Hu Yi Tian considering he’s p monotone and only knows how to play one kind of character.
She's really beautiful, and she is great at playing anxious/tormented/two-faced or double/hidden persona characters like in Black, Goblin, and Liar Game. Although she's beautiful, I can't really see her as a woman because in It's Okay, That's Love she was transgender and pulled it off so well, and in Liar Game she was a woman, Jamie, who wears heavy makeup, but Jamie was also the "Fukunaga" character from the Liar Game manga, who was a transgender male who crossdresses as a woman. So I can't really unsee it. I look for a ton of complicated roles from her in the future! Hopefully a main lead one.
Edit: would totally have missed it if I didn't see the below comment about her in White Christmas! I had no idea I first saw her in that show, no wonder she always looked familiar. Damn she really plays the psychological/thriller roles well.
An absolutely tremendous drama. I can't believe more people aren't watching it. I watched it with my mom on TV while it was airing in Taiwan, and even though I didn't grow up there, my mom did, and we laughed, cried, felt sad and excited for all the developments in those people's lives. We watched the kids in the village grow up and start their own families, go through problems in life and love, become closer than ever. It's a coming-of-age drama that everyone should watch once in their lives.
Where can I watch this show (without ads, I don't have DramaFever premium or Viki pass) in HD w eng sub? Free viki has ads and its only in 480p, and my go-to place is KissAsian (it's supposed to be in HD but it's obviously not) which has this drama in worse quality than viki. :(
