Why are you comparing it to Prisoner of Beauty? I don’t understand the correlation, both these stories are unique…
I mean it was always a romcom. Literally the source material this drama comes from is a full on lighthearted story with some good ass battle scenes

I think she said her plan in going to the camp is to talk to cheng lisu and get him to cancel the engagement but…
actually for the conversation of engagement cancelment to happen they need to go back to the capital too and there hasnt been a chance like that yet. The leihe invasion happened suddenly and I doubt there was anyone to take song taotao back to the capital. And I doubt cheng lisu would leave without xiao jue

I'm too lazy to respond to every comment but please, for your own sake if you expected something specific from…
Esp because shes MEANT TO BE CHEERY AND GOOFY. Like the author literally calls he yan a cool cutie. She's cool, i mean literally that fight scene with the leihe tribe? but she also likes to tease and smile. And xiao jue even says to her at the baihe mountain scene- you dont need to smile when you're sad

On Legend of the Female General Aug 11, 2025
Ok so im rereading the nivel and for people that just keep complaining that he yan doesnt seem like a general and shes too cheerful and xiao jue isnt cold enough, (Which are mostly novel readers) I have one of the authors notes from the chapters for you: While this book also has a rebirth theme, the writing style is a bit different from previous works, leaning more towards light-hearted and sweet themes (maybe?). There will be less intrigue and more emphasis on relationships (probably). Yan Yan is a cool little cutie, and as for uncle, he’s not really aloof; he’s just lazy and doesn’t want to talk to unfamiliar people.

So this drama using more comedic music, he yan being more cheerful and flirtatious and xiao jue not being that cold is all part of the book. The charcters were orignally like this, Xiao jue is a lazy person that cannot be bothered to converse to people and for their relationship to develop he yan has to be the clingy one bec xiao jue is not one to initiate. I understand were all frustrated because its not exactly like the novel but we knew that before the drama came out, if you really dont like the changes dont watch it and ruin your novel experience. I for one dont like the changes but my love for seeing xiao jue and he yan come to life is greater than my dissapointment at he yunsheng and lin shuanghe being deleted and many other iconic scenes. Im just enjoying the drama, yes it has some logic issues but yall being too critical, theres been so many dramas even more illogical than this but i dont see anyone else hating on those. Thankyou for coming to my tedtalk.

Fortunately, Song Yi Meng has already explained to us how it all happens!😉
Omg thats exactly what in doing. Rereading it from the start. Ngl the reread is only making me sad that he yunsheng doesn't exist. I'd say he was ny secind fav character after lin shuang he. And funnily enough the drama has deleted both of them :(

Aw i feel bad that you're unable to be invested. I think I might've been the same had i jot read the novel but because im invested in he yan from novel, i find myself not really caring abt tge drama only wishing to see her on screen. Altho i think i do understand your dissapointment, ots tgere for me too. There are definitely some key he yan momemts that were left out, i think if they showed more of he yans suffering before the failed assassination and exactly why its so sad for her to lose everything we might be more invested. Its definitely the past arc which is the problem. Even with the missing development of her training which was so less, her past could've kept us looped in but it's difficult to feel her pain when they didn't give much background on her assuming us to just know that she suffered imo

I have turned off my brain nd am enjoying looking at ZY, CL and ZKL😁I don't know about others but I actually…
its not girlish playfullness, its a flirtatious and frivoulous attitude. Shes meant to be this playful carefree person who doesnt care abt propriety and forgets shes a female and can casually touch men, especially thinking about the era she is in and how a woman repuattion was everything in historical periods. THIS is zhou ye's character. Another reason shes so mischeovous is because she used to be constrained by her identity before and had to be reserved and keep her distance from ppl so they dont find out shes a boy, now she who has never really interacted with people much before, tries to be friendly with people she meets, also one of the reasons she doesnt actually have a hostile attitude towards chu zhao. She tries not to be wary of people so she can get people to like HER, ykwim? Her character is pretty complicated. Like that scene she kills ding yi, when xiao jue shows up, the switch up from her serious murderous aura to the playful smile showcases exactly who she is

im pretty sure it wasnt the script writer being lazy. Considering the censorship, and the 270 chapters of the book, no wonder they could only pick apart only the highlighted scenes to show in the drama. By ep 10 we have passed about 100 chapters of the book. And with remaining 26 episodes, Im hoping they have more screen time for the remaining part of the story and we can pick up the flow now.So far im still willing to give it a chance because i love seeing he yan and xiao jue on screen

Leaving everything else aside, I just hope that the drama won’t weaken He Yan’s fighting skill. I really don’t…
we acc dont know who would win in a fight between the two, her skills are taught by xiao jue so her sword formations show resemblance to his style. And when they fight, she would use the 'beauty tactic' and xiao jue the 'feigning injury' tactic so it was never determined.

however many times he yan did say she found that she needed to b v alert when duelling xiao jue, prob same for xiao jue but xiao jue is slightly better than he yan in novel not bec he yan cant but bec in her reborn body, she has only trained for a few years while xiao jue went through crazy intensive training with his 5 masters, completely isolated. So in her current body she is slightly inferior to xiao jue but its not like she would be defeated by him bec she can keep up quite well

He Yan in the drama is sooooooooooooooooo different from He Yan in the novel. I don't mind that they changed the…
i kinda disagree i feel like, she acts JUST LIKE Heyan in the novel. He yan does have the confidence in her abilities, shes not girly? when was she girly, she is flirtatious and frivoulous and thats exactly what he yan in the book would do and xiao jue the noble man who observes propriety would always be embarassed by her. Her only girlyness came out in the sword dance which we can admit is a bit weird but i think thats not a very major issue?

I find that xiao jue always has a cold face, like just staring straight ahead but when it comes to he yan, his facade would crack which is exactly like how it was in the novel too. She hasnt gotten any chances to actually show off her 'general' aura, even in the book this part only came out at the ACTUAL battles. Did u see the comparison edit for xiaojue curving his lips at he yan at her dance vs when the dancers at the banquet.

Also the last part you said, I agree but we cant ignore that this drama has only 36 episodes, and the novel was like 270 chapters, the novel had time to show her dislike and respect turning into love. The drama, if the characters are not in love by the middle of the drama, the rest of the plot which is seperate from the romance would have no chance to develop, better to show her just being irriated by his standoffish attitude but also care for him which by the way, according to the drama plot can also be because of her guilt towards his father.

Don't look at me.... I'm just here for the dirty jokes! In all seriousness, I think looks wise Zhou Ye can credibly…
i think the height thing isnt a plot hole. They were VERY young when they knew eachother. And that too for a short time (not sure how long it is in the drama) and their interactions were also limited. She gets arranged to a marriage and doesnt want to ruin the life of another woman and runs away to the army, she spends her time rising through ranks and (again not sure if this part happens in drama or not) then goes home and doesnt even get to personally accept the feihong title. Now in the drama, she meets xiao jue after years and her armor actually makes her look general enough and theyre in the middle of a ongoing battle when they meet and shes crouched when he first sees her, wrenches her away and takes her sword and leaves. He didnt even get to register anything about her to know that its a different he ru fei. Same for other characters, assuming the drama has followed novels plot, literally except the parents NOONE knew she was he rufei, not even her biological sibling. Not a single servant knew. As for the people she met in army who should recognize her height diff and diff voice, he rufei completely annihilates everyone close to he yan in the army and ofc he yan as a woman disguising as a man tried to keep distance from people in general so there couldnt have been too many ppl. Im hoping though that the drama GIVES us these details so these 'plot holes' can be ammended. If it doesnt come, then that will be v dissapointing.

I do agree that this drama delivers something that divert so much from what I initially imagined it to be. I'm…
yes, she can be serious when she wants to be but in general shes always been cheery, carefree doing what she wants because she didnt get to do that before. In the novel she was always teasing xiaojue and making him angry (she would tease him for being a homosexual and used to tease him that he liked her when she was a man)

Extra novel spoiler

In one of the extra chapters shes telling their child a story of a female general that chops head and xiao jue stops her from putting their child to bed because shes so nonserious

actually the novel plot had the heartwrenching and angsty plot which the drama has removed. They cant deliver on something when they've deleted it. I literally cry even now when i reread some scenes from the novel. She was supposed to have been married off, blinded by her family after her marriage and then killed bec she was still badass when blind while she was pregnant and drowned in a pond by her husbands concubine. She actually dies. like no chance for revenge or redoing life as herself anymore. she lost what she lost forever. even after rebirth, shes in a new body, she will never have her old face and her old life as feihong anymore. That was the heartwrenching part. If she doesn't actually die, like in the drama, she can always have a chance at reclaiming everything. Also her husband then marries her blood sister. Then the novel in the start was very romantic/ comedyish. When her family arc starts, thats when things get serious and heartbreaking for her as she starts dealing with the people who killed her. Her life was so sad that you literally root for her, she acts childsih and funny at times but you only find it endearing instead of judging her for not being a serious general

this is meta-textual and [BIG NOVEL SPOILERS ] [COMMENTARY FOR NOVEL READERS ONLY] but when watching ep 10 I kept…
I hope it follows the novel. As chu zhao said in the recent ep he chose this path willingly. Heyan in the novel too felt bad for chu zhao but thinks that he chose this for himself. His female assistant was his only companion who he treated as a means despite saving her. Him being left alone and in the extra chapters he is in jinying city i think and not in good state. he will forever suffer the consequence of being completely alone and not get what he desires for the path he chose. Chu zhaos character arc is reallly imp imo bec it shows that good people, with good values and a conscience can also end up choosing bad paths like he did

Man I love this show to bits and pieces. ZY is totally slaying it even though peeps keep saying she ain't a man,…
yes, you've captured the essence of who she is, who he is and their relationships. But i see some people complaining that shes childish and not serious enough but they simply dont understand the character dynamic. She needs to be this energetic silly person who becomes xiao jues exception, always crossing his tolerance and escaping unsacthed because he has a soft spot for her
