AND the amount of pop culture coming out of specifically Japan over other Asian nations that uses teacher/student relationship dynamic… power distortions and adult/minor relationships is jarring to me. It doesn’t sit well and I feel uneasy coming across it again and again (I love Japanese culture and much of its art, practices and even dramas, in general). While you’re right, this doesn’t equate that the “country” is like this, it speaks to a certain acceptance overall: “It’s just a story”.
