Sorry, I have to butt in! But I want to make clear that I'm not being bitchty about it, I can see that you are a very enthusiastic fan of the novel and I get your love for it (and the drama). I just feel compelled to point out that "spoilers lessen the enjoyment of the drama" is nothing more that *your* point of view! Plenty of people are not in any way fazed by them, they actively seek them out. If someone is asking for spoilers, provided that one gives them in the correct way (that is, shielding them from the casual view of other commentators), there's no need to make decisions for them, because their parameters for enjoying a piece of media are probably very different from yours. And even if some of them were to end up regretting asking for spoilers, well, maybe that was a lesson they needed to learn.
I guess I'll throw my 2 cents here too. I feel like I need to premise that I think that every actor/actress has every right to set their own boundaries - it's the casting director/the producers/the director's role to make the choice to reject or accept said boundaries. So, my complaints are addressed to those who made the executive decisions... why?! There are so many (so many!) contemporary romances being produced where skinship, kisses and intimacy are completely optional, whereas here, surprisingly, those aspects were important to the plot. Why did they choose someone who doesn't want to portray that kind of passion (which, I need to add, wouldn't have been particularly excessive in any case)? They really made a disservice to their drama and they missed the mark. I'm feeling sorry for both leads, and a little bit for myself as a viewer as well, because I would have like this drama (a drama with a simple plot, based on the leads' chemistry and performance) so much more if different choices were made.
I'm so irritated. Why so many TW bl productions feel the need to tell 2 stories in 1? There's not enough time to really develop the main storyline, let alone the secondary one. I like this story, I really do, I like both pairings (the main one especially, in part because - honestly - I cannot stand Orca's hairstyle...) but I feel like they're skipping too many steps. Every episode is (super) short and split in two, and at the end of the day I'm not satisfied by this kind of storytelling. Annoying! Just concentrate on 1 storyline- 25ish minutes/episode is really not a lot of time to tell all you seem to want to tell...
What happened to Hiro is just too real. Is Hiro dull? Yes. The point is that he's been manipulated since the beginning and now his self-confidence has been smashed to smithereens. Also, Hiro's the one who thinks he's incompetent (or "slow") - he's the perfect unreliable narrator. Don't you think that if he really was that inept, his supervisor would ask someone else to fill the blanks and do the important last-minute work? It's obvious that Hiro is, in fact, good enough - maybe even very good at his job! But he's been psychologically abused and he has since long stopped thinking so. I feel for him so much. Let Kai be his ray of sunshine in a foggy life! Only 2 episodes left? No, no, that's not enough!
Just watched this drama on the VIKI app and am surprised at how awful all comments were . The way they were all…
I still haven't decided if I want to watch this drama or not (hence my perusing this comment section), but I feel what you're saying so much... sometimes I turn on the comment on viki because I love the idea of camaraderie, you know? Feeling like you're watching a drama with someone else. But alas, I'm usually promptly disillusioned, and I soon turn them off. So many of the people that comment are usually people who a) have zero empathy, are incredibly self-centered and think they are so much clever and smart than everyone else (and often don't realize that usa laws are pertinent only in... well, usa ), or b) people who hate on the FL because -- they think they would be a better match to the ML, I guess? It's baffling.
I'm intrigued by MHE, and I'm looking forward to what you all will be saying about it in the next few weeks!
Listening to the hype, I am starting this now. But I'm not sure, during first 5 min, what Im watching : KinnPorsche…
haha, I feel I have to comment on the "fake Italians speaking bad Italian" - I, otoh, was surprised by the fact that it wasn't bad Italian at all - sure, the dialogue was unnatural, with a propension to unnecessary swear words (because bad people use bad words!), and it was an accented Italian (the Don's southern accent, that's what was maybe faked), and the acting of those actors was questionable, but no, from the way they are speaking I think they are Italians.
Not gonna lie when I first saw the "whoever fall in love first loses" scene in the trailer, I rolled my eyes and…
It's like making this bet - "whoever fall in love first loses" - is the only way they can let themselves be closer to each other! Especially pran, he needs a pretext, a justification to open up to pat, and a competition is the best way to do it!!
Watch this because of YZ, but JBR kinda steal the show lol
I agree! I really like YZ, but... I don't know of it's QKY's character or JBR's acting, but every time he's on screen I'm a goner, and when he's not I'm missing him, lol!
I see where many people are coming from, but for some - admittedly even to me - obscure reasons I don't mind the time skips here. I don't know why, and I'm *really* puzzled because one of the things I hate the most is when dramas start with an action-filled scene and then they go: "... XX hours before". I hate that! Usually it completely ruins the rhythm of the drama for me. But here, where there are so many different story/timelines, I don't mind at all. It's so strange! Also, the fact that this drama is a mix of genres is one of the reason I'm liking it - but I definitely understand why it's such a polarizing drama.
Let me join all the voices here who are recommending this drama to people who are thinking "Should I watch this?" As of episode 5, this drama is so good. Yes, there are engineers - I was hesitant too! And the title is cheesy, too. But! -- the story makes sense, the main characters are not 2-dimensional and the actors' acting is on f*cking point! Give it a chance, you will be a puddle of goo at the end of episode 5, guaranteed!!
So u break up with ur bf cuz he cheated on you once and ur father is pissed cuz apparently he loves the to be…
I mean, I'm irritated as hell too by the fact that her dad is such an awful person (I see no redeeming qualities in his "love", he just loves to have total control of his daughter's life and he wants a prestigious son-in-law), but to be fair the FL didn't break up with the asshole ex-bf because of him cheating (I would have, and I wouldn't have believed it was a one time mistake, but that's just me), she consciously chose to forgive him his indiscretion and move on; no, she decided to break up because she realized they have grown distant, they don't know each other anymore, they don't even like each other anymore and their values are too different (he would have been ok with her cheating on him "to get even", in fact he thought she did cheat on him with Mr. Mo, and he talked like even future affairs wouldn't be such a big deal). I don't know why she doesn't TALK to her family and she doesn't explain why she did what she did, but I suspect the father wouldn't care anyway (I bet he could even justify his former student cheating, he seems that kind of person).
People who are confused about the kiss in Ep10 have to understand that Moo-hak came from being hit from left field…
I want also to point out that there's this sexual tension between the two of them that was always on the brink of spilling out, and during that confrontation... well, it spilled out ^_^'''. And IMO JMH was pissed at Da Li's apologizing for the jerk because, well, she shouldn't be apologizing for him, unless he's her boyfriend - rather, she should be saying something along the lines of "I'm sorry I was accompanying such a person, that was a poor decision on my part, I should have put him in his place". That said, yes, JMH's line was brutal and totally slap-worthy!
I've seen some commentary on Chinese platforms, and there's a comparison between his role as Yu Tu with Xiao Nai.…
I agree with you! You know, I'm not into fan culture, so I didn't come to this drama because I was invested in one the leads - I just thought they were both so attractive, a drama with them in it had to be full of sugar and eye candy, so why not giving it a try. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this drama, despite the "outlandish" premise, was actually not just empty calories, but a satisfying meal. I mean, Yu Tu's struggles are so real and relatable... he could have been making millions, but he chose to follow his dream - he got a prestigious and important job, but a job that is low-paying (well, at least compared to what he could have made, I don't think his penniless). Unfortunately when you arrive at a certain age, 30 or 40 yo, it seems that the most important things are how much money you make, what kind of car and house you have, if you are married, if you have kids, how exceptional your kids are, etc. I can completely understand Yu Tu's insecurities, especially given how incredibly talented he is - everyone was expecting him to shine in a particularly flashy way, while he just wanted to quietly pursue his passion. Discovering his dad's doubts and real thoughts on his job must have been really painful and crushing - knowing you're kind of letting down your parents because you're doing what you love, that's rough. And then let's be honest, everyone with a grain of salt would be hesitant to start a relationship with someone as bright as Jing Jing, especially someone who's by nature really not impulsive but used to ponder their every decision. Dating a star has its own set of problems, it's certainly not just glamour and fun. I'm really enjoying YAMG, of all the dramas with similar theme I've seen, this one seems to be the most well thought out, and I'm here for it.
"Xia Qing. I think... I owe you an apology. I accepted your love then because you were capable and independent. But it never occurred to me I should return your love." (ep.16)
My god, I'm amazed by Yu Tu's savageness! He's such a king, so savage, so satisfying! *clap clap clap*
So many people have already said it, but darn, this drama is so refreshing, so good, so satisfying! I really hope that months - years - from now people will read all this raving comments and be persuaded to give it a chance, because it's really worth it. I think AvenueX really nailed it in her youtube review - the fact that none of the actors is a traffic actor/actress really was a blessing. I've never fully realized how much I loathe all slow-mo, close-up scenes that riddle so many dramas nowadays - they really serve no purpose! It's not that I don't appreciate the occasional fan service shoot, but I primarily watch a drama for the story - and here the story flows perfectly. Also, seriously, I have the biggest crush on Commandery Prince An - he's just... the perfect partner material! <3<3<3<3
Everyone seems to value relationships in this drama. They seem to watch out for one another. I find the evil eunuch…
The head eunuch is wonderful! He gives me so many conflicting emotions - exactly what I want from a nuanced villain. I mean, he's smart, evil and scheming, but every time I see him trying to patch a beard on his face I'm all torn up - really, all that yearning for something impossible is so heartbreaking (and kinda relatable). Also, I cannot stop thinking how cruel it was to make young children into eunuchs - be it for being courtiers, singers, soldiers, sexual partners, religious figures etc. Just thinking about it makes me mad and sad!
I think Aoey is right in his reaction. If you told someone that you like a person and they didn't tell you they…
I mean, if a stranger were to say to me, "hey, you know what, I like xyz, I want to get together with them", I would be like "ehm, why are you telling ME this? 0_0" IRL would you really feel obliged not to like someone only because a near-stranger (we are not talking BBF here!) has told you that they like that same someone?!?!? And would you really feel obliged to confess your deepest feelings (so deep you have even problems facing them yourself) to that same near-stranger just because they asked you to?!?!? It's just that it seems so strange and alien to me. I do feel sorry for Aoey's awful family situation, and I get that he's really pitiful and deeply hurt and, I guess, also quite troubled, but the way he tries to manipulate Gene is really wrong.
Do we get an answer as to who the blonde and baby are
If the "Brandon" Shi De's mom mentioned is her husband, the "Ashley" she also mentioned is probably her stepdaughter (and Oscar the new baby) - I think that's the only reasonable explanation, because we all know Shi De wouldn't cheat on him, ever ;)
Only 2 episodes left? No, no, that's not enough!
