Title Born Again
Heathcliff: Victim Or Villain?

Heathcliff, the protagonist of Wuthering Heights, is well-known as a romantic hero, due to his undying love for Catherine. However, in the second half of the novel, he is nothing more than a man driven by revenge; a villainous character seeking to gain control by manipulating those around him. But can this really be considered as the workings of an evil man? Or is it the end product of an uncaring, brutal, capitalist society?
Heathcliff is a hero because of the depth of his love for Catherine, and the great care he has for her. Heathcliff is a villain because of the merciless revenge he tries to get on the persons that hurt him.

Quotes from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
“He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same; and Linton’s is as different as a moonbeam from lightening, or frost from fire.”

“My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I’m well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary.”

“It was not the thorn bending to the honeysuckles, but the honeysuckles embracing the thorn.”

Hopefully the ending of Born again wont be the same as in Wuthering Heights.
