While I agree with your statement about HYC, I must disagree with some of these.
I've personally watched a lot of Drama and movies to which I have an idea why he's being this way, but I could be wrong. If we compare it to season 1 and 2, his actions and intentions about what he wanted to were the reason that exposed him to something that impacted him negatively. So in order not be obvious, he is acting indifferent like he doesn't care about anything, so that Dan-tae or Seo-jin can't learn about this true intention. That could be a way for him to perfect his revenge plan if he has any, so I guess we just have to wait and see.
Unlike any other crime/detective drama, this one was really interesting. I don't why but it kinda gave me a vibe like I was watching Supernatural or something lol. Overall I enjoyed this drama, it was something different from what I usually watch, and I recommend it to others if you are a fan of ghost and such.
